To stop squirrels try greasing the feeder pole, we did squirrel tried once never came back.
  • Just seen my first robin and the blackbirds have started eating the crab apples.

I put peanuts out for the squirrel, that stops him trying to eat the sunflower hearts in the feeders. The only thing, the blue and great tits have cought on.
  • I spent an hour cleaning my feeders, awful designs with some of them,I was so glad of the dry cold weather.......now look at it! Everything will turn to mush and start sprouting!  Is it worth it? I end up throwing so much away due to the rain!😡

I soak mine in a bucket of soapy water for a couple of days V.Gardener. I have duplicates or spares for swapping around while they soak. I can then clean them fairly easily with one of those brushes for cleaning baby bottles.
I bought a new one which has a clip at the bottom, and you can then release the inner section at the base to make access simple.
I don't have a clear pic of it as I've just hung it back out, but I think you can just about make out the metal clip in this pic - like a loop either side of the base at the top of the perch. Then the whole green base comes out. You can unscrew the perches too if necessary.

Can't recall the make, but I think I got it in B&Q.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

How about this one. Not actually on the bird table but very close. Sorry about the poor quality, it was taken through a wet wind on the rain in a hurry.

Was it a great white? I've seen plenty of little egrets but never one of them. I grew up watching little egrets in Devon and never understood that they were rare or special until I was much older.

The wagtails are back at my feeders. A sure sign of terrible weather on the way.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • My bird feeders are getting cleaned out by flocks of starlings, unfortunately nothing else gets near them

I've seen more squirrels round my bird feeders than birds.  Horrible things!
