Gosh your robin is a smart looking bird Zenjeff, our robins are far scruffier and generally not too handsome.
At last we have had some long tailed tits finding our bird feeders, they usually flit from one tree to another but stopped off for some food this time, hopefully the first of many visits. Sorry for the photo, it all happened so quickly - they are quite twitchy to noise.
I hope you are right Liri They are lovely birds and make quite a lot of noise (of the nicest kind). They usually fly to the Silver Birch tree and then fly into the Willow too which are both at the bottom of the garden and great favourites with the bird, so it was a real treat to have them come so close to our house.
Just seen Zenjeff's comment about goldfinches wasting sunflower seeds...I've just switched back to hearts from chips and am now having to fill the feeders everyday and there is a huge heap on the ground.
I'm wondering if the chips get wasted less because they are smaller. I've ordered another sack of chips so will keep an eye on it...
I feed mine sunflower hearts, but in a squirrel-proof feeder. The "rejected" seeds end up on the ground like yours, Victoria, but then they get hoovered up by the ground feeders, larger birds and squirrels.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I couldn't attract a single goldfinch to our feeding stations until I put out a nyger feeder. The results were almost immediate and now we have regular visitors. Worth a try,
Wonderful little birds! Yesterday I finished beheading my sunflower plants and perched all the heads along my bird feeding bench and in my Mountain Ash tree. Now the birds can peck away at them.
Along the river I have a group of young ducks that always show up for some seed. For a while I felt sorry for one that was always chased off by the others. One day I patiently waited for it to eat from my hand. So now the little beggar sneaks up behind me and grabs hold of my shoe laces and tugs until I bend down with a hand full of seed.
We were the same Dave, nyger seeds were what attracted the gold finches to our feeders, we went from 2 gold finches in the first year to our biggest count last year of approx. 13. There were definitely two sets of parents and their fledglings either feeding or queuing up to get to the feeder - it was a wonderful sight. We now have more feeders for them, but sadly not so many gold finches this year.
Johnny Canoe - can we rename you the bird man? You certainly have a knack with the birds from what I have seen. They really do feel safe around you. Our birds are far too flighty and disappear as soon as we open the front door most of the time.
Love the long tailed tits GD2 don't get them here lots of gold finches today as well as the noisey squabbling Jackdaws wood pigeons must have been bathing in the pond as per all the film on the water they leve behind

They're lovely, aren't they, GD! Now they've found your food supply I bet they'll be back...
