  • I dug over  another section of my raised wild flower bed in preparation for sowing a mixture of flower seeds, either later today or tomorrow.  That took 1 1/2 hours and I was amazed at just how many Honesty flower seeds had already germinated under the plastic sheeting we had laid at the end of last year to prevent weeds from germinating!

Seeds will germinate in the dark, but i think they would die after a while. I put the rose food around the rose plants. Started to put a mulch round but started to rain.image

  • No rain here Logan4 so I had to water the pots, troughs and containers yet again. I wish my irrigation system would start working 100% soon - it is only watering one flower bed so far.

Transplanted quite a few seedlings into small pots now that they have grown and inch or more with quite a few tiny leaves on each seedling. Dead headed a few more daffs, and that was about it.

I've potted up a bargain Trachycarpus fortunei (I only bought it on impulse when I spotted it for £15 at Homebase, which I thought was good for a three foot plant - but when it went through the tills it came up as £7.50 - I lucked out there!)

I cut a Salvia 'Caradonna' into three pieces, took some basal cuttings which will probably die, and planted out along with some Geranium 'Rozanne' salvaged from my last place.

(I haven't got a clue where to put the Trachycarpus by the way - it looks stupid everywhere - damn impulse buys!)

Keep it in a pot and try it about the place later in the year when plants have bulked out. You might have more luck placing it then.

Popped into lidl to buy some milk and ended up with 2 x Bristol ruby weigelia, 2 x deutzia, 1 x snowbound spirea and a kerria all for the bargain price of £3.69 each.

planted a weigelia and deutzia in the front to replace 2 palm trees I chopped down earlier this year. Lovely palms but I couldn't put up with the mess they made any more. The others have gone along the fence of the back garden, 3 on the front fence and one in a gap where I have cleared irises At the back.

Pricked out 6 tomato seedlings.  That's it ?.  Small steps ?.

I did order a few more bits though - Rose 'Rhapsody Blue', Leucothoe 'Scarletta' and Acer palmatum 'orange dream'.

At some point I need to tip the balance to start reducing things I need to do rather than adding to the list!
