Spent an hour in the veg plot yesterday. Was a mess, haven't looked at it for over a month, except to pick the last tomatoes from the GH last week. Lots more to do. The farmer has cleaned out the field shelter with his tractor and he's scooped up a pile of droppings in the place the horses used as a loo for the last two winters. So now I have a load of black crumbly manure to spread when I've finished weeding.

Then I spent 2 hours in the middle bed. Need to find room for tulips and alliums.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Funnily enough I planted my nectaroscordum, Purple Sensation and Christophii in the smaller of the two cleared beds yesterday.   Lovely soil under the piles of compost so I hope they grow well.   Crocuses and perennials today.

  • Beautiful day again here - too hot to wear a coat. Planted 18 gorgeous bright red cyclamen in pots and troughs around the house - 14 more to plant tomorrow. I love red, especially at this time of year - so welcoming.  Also been down the hole - t'is a slow job this hole making business.

Popped up to allotment this afternoon, picked some sprouts and leeks for weekend and renewed 5 paths with bark chippings

Needs a bit of fresh air from all my house work

Guernsey D , just bring nosey but this hole of yours is it for a pond ? image

  • Sprouts and leaks - you are industrious GWRS - my late father grew a huge amount of veg. shared it with us, gave it to neighbours etc. etc. He was a real gentleman, so kind. My OH struggles to grow anything (ssssssh don't tell him I said that).  Yes the hole is for a pond - a rather big pond which is giving me a few headaches, I will put some pictures on here in the next few days.

Too cold today. -6° this morning.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Planting more cyclamen to day - they are looking good. Divided 2 ferns that had grown beautifully but were dominating other smaller plants in their area.
