Thalia is one of my favourites - Silver Chimes is quite similar and I have quite a lot of those too.
I'm on clay too, but I spend a lot of time improving the drainage and find alliums do quite well. In this garden, I've built raised beds - there was no garden anyway - so I'm able to control the conditions better.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Dwd - I am not on clay soil. It was supposed to be the metre high big headed ones I planted. Perhaps they will make it through to next year! They only came to about 18 inches, and only got eight out of the fifty bulbs I planted! My soil is fairly normal, if anything on the light side and planted in a south facing border.

I have to say that I like bright clear colours in Spring. I had some Purple tulips as part of an offer a couple of years ago. In dark dreary days, they got lost. A bright yellow or red or orange is much more cheerful.
I agree with you fidgetbones - anything to brighten up the dull days of winter is welcome here - o.k. the colours clash but so what? The colours please me and THEY can always wear a pair of sunglasses if THEY don't like the clashing colours. My daughters are into purple but to me that is almost as bad as black - dark and drab (so is grey and brown but we don't see many flowers in those colours thankfully.).
Busy looking through Sarah Ravens catalogue as you all speak! Has anyone had bulbs from her? Any good? Last year I just pinched her ideas ? Colour combos ?
Like you fairy I plan to put no more in the ground this year and plant in pots. I love orange, purple and hot pink combos!
I have quite big pots to fill. What can I plant on the top till the tulips come through? All ideas welcome thank you x
Winter cyclamen, winter pansies, bellis daisy, grape hyacinths, tete daffodils - I have used these to give colour in the pots whilst waiting for tulips to flower Beaus Mum.
Hogweed - sounds like ideal conditions for alliums - bad luck. I have only one bed with lighter soil in full sun and the alliums seem to love it.
Beaus mum - I have bought from Sarah Raven lots of times and have found the quality to be variable. I often do what you have done and take inspiration from the catalogue and then buy elsewhere, although I do sometimes find the prices to be competitive and the quality to be good.

Dwd I didn't know you could get white tete a tete. Are they really white or are they pale cream/yellow?

Thank you GD2 ?
B3 they were a very light cream I think, but lovely. There's one just surviving in this picture from this year.
