Absolutely agree Hosta, but that is why I've said the vets have to have the majority say. I like the individual breeds to have their individual appearances - it's when these are overly accentuated that they are bad for the breed. The breed standard should be adhered to, not pushed to the nth degree.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Dove: enjoy the display! I went on February when they STILL had the damned Christmas decorations out. It was awful trying to look behind the massive dusty penguin to see the Avelling 12 ton single compound behind it. But that is what you have to do to keep the money coming in I guess.
Stopped on my way to work to help a chap and his young son that had run out of fuel on the way to school. It was a silly busy road and not one person apart from myself and a lorry driver slowed down to help us push the car to safety. Is it really so important that you get to work that you forget what it is like to panic when your car suddenly stops (he'd lent it to a friend and jumped in not realising that said friend hasn't topped it back up: another gripe!) Got them into my car (they were going to walk along the road! Christ can you imagine how I'd have felt if I'd heard they'd been wiped out by one of the drivers on their phones / doing their make up / etc??) And took them back to their house to get a jerry can (did you know most fuel stations don't stock jerry cans now? What's that all about). Got them fuel and dropped them off at the car. It took less than 20 minutes.
If people can't spare 20 minutes from their day to give a strangers car a push to safety we're all doomed.
Trouble is what I really want now is a cup of tea. This drinking water all the time doesn't have the same satisfying effect! Only a few days to go then I can end my H2 Only challenge on Friday with THE BIGGEST MUG OF TEA you'll have seen!!
That was a lovely little event Hosta. How nice that the person behind had a such a nice attitude. Gives you a warm feeling and restores your faith in the human race
Oh Clari - I agree with you totally about helping people. Have we become such a nation of 'people in their own bubble', that we don't see anything round us? I wouldn't be able to help anyone if their car had a flat tyre or anything serious wrong with it, but I can take them somewhere or get them petrol etc.
Think you've done brilliantly with your challenge. I couldn't survive without tea, and tap water is so vile on it's own.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Makes a change from what you usually see, although here, the locals mostly know everyone, at least by sight, so they would stop. (They also tend to know your business spread very inefficiently by our tip lady who I quietly call BBC M....s). She isn't very bright so gets a bit of the story right, but mostly exaggerates or puts her own interpretation on the story. It's a bit of a competition to see who can spread gossip first in this village. Drives me crazy sometimes.
Anyway, since it's now after midnight, and I'm tired, I'm trying to close off for the night. Catch you later.
Completely agree about dog - and cat - owners being responsible and not going for inbred, deformed specimens with built in health problems or letting them breed for want of neutering. When we first got Bonzo he didn't sit or lie properly so I was worried we had a Lab with those weak hips but no, just no idea how to do it properly and no muscles. Now he can sit and pose for England!
Well done Hosta and Clari for being kind and patient and helpful. People do rush so.
Have had a busy morning taking Possum's bed to her apartment along with a supply of Indian and Thai spices and pastes to keep her going. As part of the freezer emptying project we will be having a C dinner on Saturday - last family dinner till C - duck breasts with a red wine and juniper berry sauce and gratin dauphinoise. Possum's idea. Don't want any more C stuff till after OH's birthday in early December.
Smoked haddock chowder tonight with real, undyed fish from the freezer. Pigeon tomorrow.
Still no sign of any rain so watering has been done.
Back to the attic then.

Sunny with a slight breeze so will get a good three hours in the garden later. Lots of cutting back and trimming to do.

In for a quick coffee as I don't think the rain is far off.
Very pleasant for working though.
That was good of you Clari and I bet the chap was very grateful. It doesn't take a lot to keep the wheels ticking round.
Clari , a lilltle bit of goodwill to our fellow man is good , well done

I don't need to comment on the dog breeding issues, it seems you all have it well sorted.
As you were.
tee hee Steve.
Dare I mention " docking tails"?
