Think there might be another Big dreams, small spaces coming up

  • Joyce..yes I hope so too, but I do hope that it will inspire a few more young 'guerilla gardeners' to look after and get involved with plants and gardening.

Whilst winter may be the busiest time for professional gardeners, I'm not sure how the work they are doing would translate into good telly.  There's only so much plant propogation and seed planting you can show before it gets repetitititive. image

A lot of their other work is preparing the ground for next year.  Busy for sure, but enough to fill more than a couple of programmes?

True but many of the sections in the programme are filmed either earlier in the year or even the previous year. They could show more of the specialist nursery/growers, and more of the pieces on gardens around the country - bring a little summer sunshine and inspiration into the darkest days. I'm not saying they shouldn't stop at all for Winter. I can see a break for the Christmas schedules makes sense, but I'm usually still gardening well into November (until the tulips are all in) and starting to sow seeds again by early February. It's 2 or 3 weeks too early to stop and it starts again about a month too late.

I notice that the father of the girl who planted the tree lives near Harley Street. I wonder if he had anything to do with this:

Danae: I wish I had bought some chick peas. I forgot last night. The soup and the dish look absolutely delicious. I must try to make some next week. Shame there is no more rockets left in my garden. I always had one or 2 every year and I never bothered eating them.

Hi Aym, I'm very pleased you like the look of my cullinary efforts.  The soup is not just tasty but warminng and nutricious and the salad pretty incredible.  Like Phadra, I will add it to my Christmas favourites.

It's a pity you have no rocket at present but I'm sure baby spinach leaves would be very tasty, though in a different way; if you like spinach, that is.

Perhaps you'd let us know how you got on when got round to having a go?

  • We thoroughly enjoyed GW, watched this evening. The short and varied topics covered surely have something to interest all gardeners. We all have to start off as beginners and it does no harm to go back to basics once in a while (i.e. bulb planting, planting strawberry plants). I was pleased to see Carol Klein, who is just so enthusiastic - a woman who loves her plants.
