I agree about the banana. No need to do it EVERY year, surely. Even so, I shall be glad to see GW return. Don't really know why it has to have such a long winter shut down. The garden certainly doesn't.

Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same things in gardens. Can't say I liked the kiosks either though. Also can't stand 'red hot pokers'. I really liked the fountain and the formality of parts of the garden. They have the space to create many different areas, just like Monty has done - theirs are just on a much larger scale.
The irritating thing about the hiatus, is that winter is when you actually want to come in and sit in front of the TV in the warmth. Not the summer! Wish they'd just do 15 min shorts on various species or some such over the break. I didn't think I'd say it but I'm actually finding an hour too long. I have to record and watch in two sittings. I like the content though. Chelsea week there was a glut of programming that could have been spread out across the year.
I can get Beechgrove on BBC2 Scotland via free sat.
Just watched last night's GW, I'll miss Nigel and Nelli and of coarse monty. I'm glad that it will still be an hour long when it comes back. By the way it's 64 days to Christmas.
I agree will miss GW, but I love the fact that most of the progs will be 1 hour long next year. Yes Verdun, I agree that some winter Gardeners World would be nice-I'm sure that there could be a least a couple of Specials done for the winter months.
Did anyone see the little girl on the breakfast news this morning that bought a tree with her pocket money to plant in a space in Oxford Street. She had her Dad plant it for her, and the council praised her for doing it! I think a GW Gold Star for her!!
I think Heseltine would have been a good UK/world PM but not a good UK/people PM. Like too many politicians, no idea about the common people and how they live or what they need or dream of.
I didn't like those kiosks either but everything else was wonderful tho not necessarily to my taste with those kniphofias. Loved the rill and lakes and sweeping tree plantations and the grandeur of those long borders.
i'm really enjoying the hour long format except for Joe on rocks because he grates. This format allows Monty to do what he does in his garden whilst others cover smaller garden projects and problems on a scale most people have at home and we still get to visit specialist nurseries, national collections, historic gardens and extreme gardens with knowledgeable presenters. Personally I think Monty needs to get out more but I'm not keen on his slightly sycophantic manner when not at home.
I've had a lovely time this pm watching recordings of the hour long bits and FFing to the good bits. brilliant. No more bananas for me either please. Not sure that veggie trial was worth it either. How clever do you need to be to realise Harlow Carr will have a shorter, cooler growing season than Rosemoor?
Given that every head gardener they've interviewed has said winter is the busiest time, why does the Beeb shut down both GW and Beechgrove so soon and fo so long? Beechgrove, by the way, is repeated on national BBC2 on Sunday mornings for those who can't see BBC2 Scotland in the week or on i-player.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Some winter specials could be great. GH did them with his Paradiese Gardens and ornamental Kitchen Garden and AT did How to be a Gardener. I wouldn't want another MD 80 gardens as it was mostly a disappointment either because of teh gardens visited or the off-season times some were visited.
I'd love a proper allotment garden through the year series or maybe they could expand on Carol's plant family series and do groups of fruits/vegetables/shrubs/trees/bulbs/alpines and so on.

damned by faint praise, I suspect

Linda...I saw it on the evening news and hope, for the little girl's sake' that her tree doesn't get vandalised too.
