Stockton in the NE, Pam and Dave took me out in their new car yesterday, I think it was a hint that mine needs renewing, Stockton is a very green Town with masses of trees and open area's, in the glorious sunshine I sat there giving the Royal wave as i passed lesser mortals and enjoying the views.
Today we have sunshine although the wind is northerly with a slight bite to it, looking down the hill to the woods the trees are taking on the Autumnal colours as are the large Oak trees along our leafy lane, the Squirrels are having a field day collecting nuts.
Live for the day and enjoy it as it comes is the motto around here and why not.
GWRS, Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, brought up in a village with a huge tree lined green we had conkers dropping on our heads. Plenty of orchards with fruit trees and more fruit in the hedgerows, Hazel Pears i loved them. Cob nuts, windfall apples we fought the pigs and sheep for them. The beautiful changes in the leaf colours collecting the leaves by the sackful for dad to make his next years potting compost leaf mould, a life most modern children know nothing about. We knew it was the run down to Christmas which lasted one week not months as it does now. Family gathering for Pudding Sunday when all the cakes and puddings were made and cooked when we got back home, did we as children have the best of it? I think so.
Sun still bright warmer than this morning, touch wood it will continue.
It has been a lovely day, cool this morning and now very warm, sunny and calm. No coat needed this afternoon - long may it last. We don't have autumn trees here, the leaves just get blown off whilst still green or brown the cherry and plum tree leaves are on the ground and some of the sycamore and lime leaves are beginning to fall.
There are plenty of mushrooms and toadstools sprouting up.
That wild, windy & wet weather has caught up with us - not a very nice day here at all. We have spent most of the time picking up windfall apples and in the mean time keeping dry. Better weather tomorrow perhaps?
GD, "when October showers should come your way, they bring the flowers that bloom next May, so hide your sorrow have no regrets because it isn't raining rain you know, it's raining Violets".
They should write a song about it? I learnt over my many years that each season is needed for the next season to do its work, having been where there was winter and summer only our four or even at times five seasons are what makes this wonderful country of ours, clean bright green and fruitful what more can we ask.
Stockton today with its changing coloured leaves is bright and sunny, warm with it. "When Autumn leaves" oh my another song coming on my head is full of them.
Yes, that is a lovely little poem and so true isn't it? I had never heard it before either Argyranthemum.
l I am pleased to tell you that it has been another glorious day today - yesterday was just a little blip in our weather, and it is back to normal today, no wind or rain and plenty of sunshine. Making up for September which was the wettest for about 20 years.
Argyrathemum GWRS Sorry to say the words are from a song which as usual I plagiarised, not my work I am afraid but "April Showers" Al Jolson sang it in a film I saw as a wee lad but as with all music parts stick.
Though April Showers may come your way, they bring the flowers that bloom in may. I think the Film was the Jazz Singer but I saw it in the Jolson Story just pre war but that could be wrong.
