Good afternoon all and hello Pat cuz I'm not sure what time it is there!
Sorry I've been AWOL again, just no time to sit down! Have read back but its reels of pages and I'm never gonna remember!
A massive wonky hug to bushman!
DD, you and Charlie are proof enough that you can create your happiness from what's important! So lovely to see those pictures, so natural and genuine! Best wishes to you both! Great tree climbing skills Charlie!
Hello Dove, the ballet sounds really special! What a treat! And accidental chips too!
Welcome home from your holidays Lesley and Chicky! hope you are relaxed and enjoyed the break and your gardens are not suffering for your absense
Yvie, the gardens sound lovely, looking forward to seeing the pictures!
My gardens at "That stage" think I will call it the terrible twos as its now in its second year! we seem to be having a drought and with no outside tap and empty waterbutt, its a tricky operation dangling showerhose from bathroom window....let's just say its not being done as often as the garden would like
Anyway, much to do and can't think where to start!
Wonky, I'm 9 hours ahead, so my quick way of calculating your time is to add 3 and reverse the am/pm. So, 4pm here is 7am there. Which is why I'm usually inside at 4pm to catch Dove and the other early birds.
I've done most of the washing, his lordship has come home (night out with friends) and promptly left to help a mate with his land rover so I'll not be seeing any DIY this weekend.
Fairy; the kitchen we currently have is "mostly functional" and last on a long list of things to do. I can't even imagine what people were thinking when they designed yours though. Let's imagine we're squirrels living in a tree perhaps?
Wonky; do you have those flexi shower fittings that go over your taps? The ones you buy in Wilkinsons. I have one in the kitchen for filling buckets with hot water when washing the car (bah ha ha... for when HE washes the car). Could you adapt one to take a long hose?
Thank you Pat, that helps my confuddled brain get around the difference!
Oh Clari! Its like you we spying on me yesterday evening, all soggy and soaked with squirts and spurts of Ill fitting bodged together shower flexi hose and gardenhose combined! Let's just say even though I have the shower hose that has Velcro straps to resist the pressure forcing the hose off, there was more water filling the bath and spurting over me as it joined the garden hose, than the trickle that seeped from the nozzle!
Think that kitchen had been put in during the 70s when pine was all the rage Clari.
Nothing a well aimed, lit match couldn't have sorted though...
I think we improved it slightly....
I loved the vaulted ceiling - but it was a b***er to paint. Just as well I don't mind heights!
Wonks - an outside tap is such a godsend. Wish I'd done it as soon as I moved in here. I was intending doing it when the building work got done, but since it was all delayed, I should just have got someone to do that at least. What an amount of time and effort it saves.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairygirl said "BL - do you have Sky or something similar? They're always showing the programmes on the Horse and Country channel that he did from his yard, and all the exhibitions and training events etc. They're fabulous. "
I used to have Horse and Country when I had my own Sky Card but we now have OH's card and it doesn't work any more.
I'm afraid I really like your old kitchen, apart from the pine ceiling. Cupboards look like oak, not pine. Looks just like my kitchen, warm looking, farmhousey. What was the matter with it?
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Nice kitchen Fairy (second pic). I have to own up to having a sauna ceiling in the breakfast diner bit of the kitchen. OH's logic tells him that if it's not broken don't fix it.
Wonky in our old house I used a hose fixing on the kitchen tap, dangled out of the window and the times it flew off the tap and flooded the kitchen.
Clari I hope your back eases soon. Very debilitating and frustrating that you can't do what you want to. Shame you're not at the stage of having your home comforts but you're on the way to a lovely house
I've had to chop down the sweet peas to get to the obelisk (my predictive text tells me that should be Obelixx) and it's got two broken legs. Good old ALDI. Never mind. the house smells lovely with three vases of sweet peas.
Liri I meant to say I love the look of your plant supports. Hope you get your TV working soon as there's so much to watch atm. Really enjoying the Olympics and Lizzie I never imagined dressage was easy. Looking forward to the individual event on Monday.
I like farmhousey in the right setting, BL... our kitchen in the cottage has panelled pine doors, and looked really in keeping with the ancient cottage, when it was new - but after chewing by visiting dogs and food- and fat-spilling by none-too-careful cooks, it now looks rather past it.
No objection to wooden cupboard doors in principle, though I prefer them less "fiddly" for easier cleaning and smoother lines. My kitchen has oak doors which I like, but also has a pine ceiling
Love that sleek, reflective look you achieved in the "after" photo, Fairy - really good in a modern house.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Oh Wonky! You must have fantastic water pressure ours never comes off with the velcro straps. I'll keep an eye out if I see anything suitable!
Fairy your new kitchen looks beautiful! Well done on hiding the washing up for the photo too! We have that colour on the wall in the office (the only room that's finished).
I'm a little miffed that while having a lay down on the bed that it's dawned on me that of the two of us cuddled up... Reggies bed is the memory foam one. I wonder if he'll let me swap.
Clari - we had a wall at the other end in that colour too. It was a north-ish facing room so it needed to be warm enough.
Yes the cupboards were oak, but they look much better in that pic than they were in reality! Horrible cheap laminate floor and cracked nasty cheapo worktops. There were hundreds of cupboards too - not really sure why. We also knocked a wall down to make the whole thing bigger and had a sideboard matching the new stuff at the other end, with really nice vertical radiators in a dark grey finish. Oak worktops and solid oak flooring and doors. Sadly, the new owners are getting the benefit of all the time and money spent on it. Such is life
It was a big Victorian house, but that was one room that really needed attention and updating. We'd never have sold it with the kitchen it had. There was a modern extension at the rear of the house where the kitchen was so it felt right doing it that way. Huge porch which we turned into a utility area, matching the kitchen. My little kitchen here is quite nice, though I'm not keen on the wooden 'framed' doors either, which it also has. Much harder to keep clean. It was all very new though, so, other than a coat of paint, I won't be doing much to it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
