Sweets were still rationed when I was young and my father bought the week's ration, after church, on a Sunday.. . . . . I got a small bar of Fry's dark chocolate cream for the week.
No rotten teeth or childhood obesity. . . . reintroduce rationing?
We go back to see the gang once a year for the annual BBQ and always take a kilo of Belgian pralines and a crate of proper Belgian beer. 20 years ago when Possum was 18 months old one of the gang exclaimed she was really jealous because Possum would grow up with Belgian chocolate as her norm.
She has. I once bought her a Walnut Whip because I remembered loving them in my youf. Neither of us liked the chocolate - greasy. Such a disappointment.
And when did they mess with Marmite and make it so weak?
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
I used to love Walnut Whips, had one a few years ago, so disappointing. Have Wagonwheels shrunk? They were huge when I was a child. I hadn't even realised M&Ms have replaced Treets.
A lot of confectionary sold in England isn't on sale in France and vice versa. What seem like staple products, baked beans, Marmite, Marmalade, peanut butter, Branston pickle, salad cream, ginger nuts, English tea such as PG Tips and Yorkshire tea etc were not sold at all in France when we moved here in 1985. But you can buy most of them now in the special foreign food section in certain supermarkets, but not always in winter. Once it was hard to find curry spices here.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Give me Mint Cracknell and I won't care.... Cut the gob off you with minty shards of glass!
Anyone remember Pink Panther bars? Pink chocolate. My mouth's watering! And Banjos. They were a double finger wafer confection with chopped nuts...
Loved Aztecs too.
Dairy Box were my favs in boxes. Boxes of chocolates used to be a selection of different ones now you can have anyting you like as long as it's a truffle. Chocolate mush all tasting the same!
Good morning all And Happy Anniversary to Wonky and her Lovely Hub!!! Four years since I wore that great big hat! I happen to know that Wonky had a particularly tough day at work yesterday ((hugs)) I hope today is a much better day
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Clari when we came here we had to have asbestos removed from the garage. we got a specialist licensed firm to deal with it and it was quite straightforward. Good luck

Dove; we've already had the asbestos garage taken away but when we brought the house we had an asbestos survey done which revealed nothing inside the house. We are however now more convinced than ever that the survey was the biggest waste of time and money.
Fortunately for us this asbestos is the lounge ceiling; the room that is currently brick walls, no carpet, and empty so at least it's not like we've just decorated!

Morning all!
Happy anniversary Wonky! I hope you have a lovely day.
We think we've found asbestos in the house; should get test results by Tuesday. Agh!
Well done Wonky. Hope you have a chance to celebrate.
