This spring has been unusually busy with ladybirds @Obelixx, our garden seems to be overflowing with them (the picture was taken in the Cambridge botanical garden, think it's on a Ferula communis). I've never been impressed with their hunger for aphids, it seems birds have a bigger appetite. I also wonder if the ants that farm aphids scare off the ladybirds. Nonetheless, I hope your hibernators will show up!

I think I've seen about four ladybirds in my garden in nine years. Thousands of aphids though. Very few butterflies too.

Hurrah, my summer frogs have returned! They come visiting in the evening and hang out with their old friends the slugs. I had my first sighting tonight. They don't make use of hotel's inviting facilities and only seem to enjoy the spa.

Despite every effort I possess, yes, the blanket weed has come back after a week. I think I officially give up.

  • Has anyone seen small black shrimps under pots and bags in their garden? When I move a pot they all jump about trying to find shelter. Valerie

    Can't help with shrimps.

@micearguers Broad beans still covered in black fly but not in time to mess with the bean pods so that's OK.  Ste sparrows and tits do a good job on aphides on my roses - near the feeders - but seem to be ignoring the ones in the veg plot.

@Fire when I'm outside pottering about I can hear frogs serenading all day in nearby ponds but the ones in our won pond seem very much more discreet and not keen on the cold, damp weather so are still very quiet.

My resident frog in the greenhouse left this spring, after three years, I hope it comes back.🥺

Such beautiful photography in Springwatch. I'm going to really enjoy the next few weeks of inspiration.
