Just examining the still prolific flowers in the front garden this morning and musing over which ones are likely to get flattened by the strong wind gusts forecast for later today when suddenly a Hummingbird Hawkmoth appeared, quickly did the rounds of the fuschias, verbena etc. and then rapidly disappeared  :)

  • Just got back from a week in the Lakes, hoping to see red squirrels and on our last day, we saw one about 20yds away on the forest floor, stood and watched it for a minute or so, before it bimbled off into the trees. Such a privilege to see one of our iconic species in the wild

The roe deer  doe has moved on to acorns to fatten up for winter. The last few nights she has spent up to an hour each night crunching away.  I put porridge oats out and some gone over  sweetcorn, but the foxes had those and she ignored them.
