I dont want any deer round here thanks, fell of ticks and our dog is recovering from Lyme disease. He's been really ill and almost died.

Lyme disease is horrible but you don't need deer for ticks and lots of potential for them round here - coypu, wild boar, rabbits, hares, pheasants and all sorts - so our dogs and cats get regular flea and tick treatments.

I hope your dog makes a full recovery @Bijdezee

Think I may have just seen a Hawfinch in the garden for the first time ever.

Initially thought it was a Waxwing but wrong time of year for them.

Waxwings are still showing up on the Rare Bird Alert map at the moment so you never know. Either bird would be nice to see in the garden though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I haven't seen waxwings in forever but don't they tend to travel in groups?

Yes, that is a terribly frustrating photo, @wild edges, the kind that we all wish we could take every day. ;):):p

The parent great tit just brought some monstrous bug into the nest and spent a frustrated couple of minutes trying to cram it into a hungry baby before giving up and taking it back out again. I wonder what it was?
