That's a lot of Cattle Egrets @wild edges local NR has had a few this year.
There's a heronry opposite the boat, less than 100 metres away, that was one of the first breeding sites for Little Egret in the UK. At peak season there can be over 70 of them sat in the trees along with the herons. This is the first time I've ever seen Cattle Egrets there though.
On Saturday morning there was a Little Grebe enjoying the sunrise right behind the boat. I've never seen one on salt water before.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Well jealous of all your Cattle Egrets @wild edges. I've failed to see one at all this year. I'm used to seeing them in fields with cattle or sheep or occasionally in trees with other egrets & herons but seeing them sitting on boats is a new one for me. There seem to be more reported each year.
Like you with your Little Grebe I was surprised to see a Great Crested Grebe fishing on the sea in North Wales. Didn't seem bothered at all when the sea got really choppy.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
More notables from the weekend. Red Breasted Merganser. The bird that got me into this whole bird-bothering thing a decade ago and this is the only one I've seen since then. Like buses though, three came along at once.
and lots of Brent Geese, which are apparently very common but just not anywhere that I usually visit.
