Hooray, my swallows have hatched 🐣 I found this egg under the nest this morning, such beautiful little eggs. I was expecting it as it’s been 15 days since she started sitting on the nest all day. This is their 4th year with us and they always hatch at 15 days. Two new pairs of swallows are still building their nests so hopefully there will be lots of eggs this year.
Taking the dog for a walk yesterday, and had to have strong words with two long tailed tits. Having a right punch up in the middle of the road, they didn’t separate and fly off until I’d almost walked right up to them. I thought it was only robins that were so aggressive to each other?
@Ergates you should see 'my' blackbirds! The females are really batey with the males, one's just gone at a male for a couple of minutes, chasing and pecking him until he'd gone right out the garden - they scrap with the starlings too, if both come to me for raisins at the same time.
Well I've never had an experience like this before! I'm sat under the patio brolly which is next to the house, eating chocolate raisins, when a young jackdaw came out of nowhere, tried to land on my face, lol, then he hopped onto the table, right on the chocolate raisins - scattering them, and stopped. I wondered if he was hurt, but then he looked at me and flew off! If anyone had been watching it would have looked pretty comical. 😄
The greater spotted woodpecker is feeding the baby from the sunflower hearts feeder.
I visited Thursley nature reserve yesterday to see some dragonflies.
Mating large blue damselflies.
Four spotted chaser
Keeled skimmer male.
Female emperor dragonfly laying eggs.
A dragonfly predator - a hobbie. Word had obviously got out that they were around as there was some serious twitching going on, blokes with huge lenses with everything dressed in camouflage - cameras, lenses, tripods and themselves. They stood out like sore thumbs on the exposed boardwalk
I didn't have my biggest lenses with me so these shots were just so that I could identify them. It was wonderful to see their acrobatic display as the chased and caught dragonflies.
