Thank you @Pat E … being rib they’re stretchy and will stay on the head comfortably, and with a deep cuff theyre doubly warm. It’s the type I’ve knitted for family members who spend a lot of time outside …like Wonky. 😊

I knitted the largest size and made it two inches longer so that the double cuff would come a lot further up the head and provide a bigger double layer of warmth.
As I think I've said before I didn't put a pompom on them because I've noticed that many of the rough sleepers like to pull their coat hood up over their woolly hats on a cold night.
Dove, how much wool do you need for one hat? I’ve seen some DK yarn in the right colour in 100gm balls, although I think I’d prefer an Aran yarn if I can find the colour I’d like. Many thanks.
Thanks for that, Dove. I downloaded the pattern, but the yarn quantity was in ounces, and a gigantic ball of wool at that, by the sound of it. I tried weighing one of my winter hats, seemed to be well under 100gms, but some confirmation is helpful.
These are to thank 2 cat rescue places, that have caught several Tuxedo cats all living on a local allotment. From one abandoned uneutered female, many many more were born. Fortunately they are already being found homes. They weren't too feral as kind people living near were feeding them. Unfortunately its a double edged sword.......if they are kept well fed, they are also in good condition to breed.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

100gms should be plenty for one with a nice deep cuff. 😊

Now my daughter wants a snail knitted. As if she’s not got enough real ones.
