What unusual fruit and veg do you grow?

Hi, I've been trying out some new fruit and veg over the past couple of years and I'm interested in what other people grow. I visited the Pennard Plants display at Chelsea last week and found lots more interesting crops, some of which I've not even heard of before. I've written an article about their display and 10 of the more unusual crops they were showcasing:

I'd be very interested to know if anyone's grown any of these and how they found the experience. Is it one you would repeat? Do you, like me, have a favourite unusual fruit or veg (for me it's oca). Thanks

    Hi,

    I'm growing cape gooseberries,they like a sunny situation and poor soil,don't get a lot but still nice to grow image

    Rabbi is easy to grow, a tasty veg cooked  and also nice  eaten  raw in salads.

    I'm growing Cucamelons for the first time this year, saw and tasted them last year and am excited about this years efforts. What else are you growing dogwooddays

    Rabbi is easy to grow, a tasty veg cooked  and also nice  eaten  raw in salads. 

    The Mexican tree spinach ,I think that's the one I have just bought .it has the vibrant pink ,says it gets very tall , described as a back of border plant. At moment it's in the greenhouse but the slugs love it .so have surrounded plant with broken egg shells.

    I have grown Pak  Choi   ,Perrila  , I also grow different colour ed  tomatoes.this year I have pink pong  a vibrant pink. Seeds are bought  as the tomatoes themselves don't have many seeds..

    I love to try anything different. ,

    Not sure how unusual they are but this year I'm growing, or trying anyways, Chickpeas and recently planted a bubbleberry plant (  Fragaria moschata )

    i grew a tomtato last year, it was a fun project and i got lots of cherry toms but it hardly produced any potatoes, in fact only 3 small ones!!! they tasted good though image

    picked up three japanese wine berry plants last year from local garden centre have no idea what they 

    taste like will wait and see

    Thanks everyone for your feedback. :) Some really interesting crops. I'm growing cucamelons again this year - the main thing I would say is eat them small - about the size of the top part of your thumb. There really is only a day between sweet and juicy and rubbery.

    I also grow achocha, inca berries (also not very productive, unlike the tomatillos which I grew last year and were fab. They didn't germinate this year for some reason), a whole heap of chillies including tree chilli. This year I'm trying centiflor tomatoes which are a type with hundreds of small tomatoes on each truss. I'm also growing lemon grass from seed, Kaffir lime, lemon verbena, pink berries (a type of pink blueberry), honeyberries (Lonicera kamchatka) and edible Fuchsia berries. Think that's about it for the weird stuff!!

    Never tried wineberries, but would like to as I love unusual fruit the best I think. I used to have a hazel nut tree in my last garden, but no nuts in this one which is a shame. Never heard of bubbleberries - presumably a type of strawberry judging by the name - off to look that one up now.

    I'd heard tomtatoes weren't terribly productive although I've never tried them myself. I'm definitely planning on growing tree spinach, although all my pak choi gets eaten by slugs, so not sure that'll be too productive! And I love Kohlrabi - growing white variety this year, but purple 'Azur Star' is pretty cool too.

    Looking forward to hearing more about that everyone is growing. :)

    We've being growing Padron peppers for a few years. First discovered then in the Canary Islands.  Delicious fried in olive oil and served with sea salt.
