Oh dear!  Disappointment in the Dove household ...  do you remember I sowed my runner beans before going on holiday (in grow tubes) and left them in a warm but shady studio to germinate while we were away ... no sign of them so I've just investigated ..... the seeds have rotted image

No runner beans for us this year - I shall go out and sow extra Swiss Chard, and at least we have the sweet corn, tomatoes and squash which are growing away merrily - we won't starve image

BM - even after shifting those r***y slabs on Friday, and my walk yesterday, the bit of me that hurts is my ribs, just below my right 'lady bump' (image)  We got a new cutting machine at work which has a long, pull lever, and it takes a bit of effort initially to get it to work as I haven't quite got the technique yet. The handle was catching me there because I was leaning all my weight on it.  image

Holidays and seed growing are not really compatible Dove image

Fairy, I think the grass and repotting will be enough for today image  The slabs can wait as they don't grow or need watered image

Dove, I had the first lot of runner beans rot. I resowed a different type and complained to the seed people who replaced the seed.  The runners have now surpassed the French beans up the poles. I would try pushing some seeds in the ground. It's going to be hot next week, that should get them going. I bet Verdun is already picking his. Where is Panda and Kef , as well?

As Joyce says, holidays are tricky when you've sown seeds. image

Good point Joyce - I may follow your advice image

A little pic from yesterday for Wonks. Some clean mountain air. Enjoy  image

Think Wonky is visiting some Open Gardens today with her Dad image

The runner bean seeds were treated no differently to other years - we were only away 8 days and the compost was moist not wet and the temp was consistently above 12C  - should have been fine.  These were the newish 'Moonlight' variety.

I shall return to my old favourites, Wisley Magic for next year.

I might just pop up to the GC and see if they've any runner bean plants left .........

Funny that.. I think mine were moonlight as well. The French beans, borlotti beans and sweet corn at the side of them, sowed the same day, germinated fine. I thought mine had got too hot, no chance of that last week.

Quick pop in to say Good Morning / Afternoon image

Looks as though it's going to be a nicer day today so a quick tidy up round the house and then out to tend the jungle masquerading as my garden. Every year around this time I feel a rising sense of panic as I look at the borders. Spring stuff gone over smothering summer plants coming through - bedraggled roses after the rain - plants at funny angles because (YET AGAIN!) I haven't staked them properly..., nursery bed with stuff to plant out but no spaces etc etc

Need to be calm and get in there with the secateurs and restore some order. Will all look better if the grass is cut and edged. Best get on....

    Have a good day all.

Nice pic Fairy - I need to see some hills.....

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
