We all had quite a traumatic time last week, 11 month old Barney the border terrier went in for what was to be presumed an easy neutering. However, the vets sent him out very bruised and red, they normally ask for a dog to be checked up after 3 days, however they insisted we came back the next day - that already set alarm bells off. After 4 hours at home and some terror howling, we noticed he was bleeding so we rushed him back to find out he needed an emergency operation or to quote the vet, "he could bleed to death, here is an invoice of the predicted £350 cost" Money wasn't the concern, his health was. They just seem more concerned by money than the animals well-being. Professional salesmen if you will. However, it turned out to be his skin capillaries bleeding due to high blood pressure (duh excited puppy) so those were cauterised and extra stitches added. Just had his 10 day check up yesterday and he's doing very well. We've been sleeping downstairs with him at night, taking shifts. Keeping a puppy rested is one thing but a border terrier is another
Thanks Peggy in Texas, I'm glad that you went through all the thread. Yes I miss him, but as time goes by it gets better and because there's barely and Berry it makes things a bit easier. But sometimes I would sit and think of him. I still getting used to him not being around. When we have our dinner we keep a few bits on a plate and cut them up, I keep forgetting that I only have to cut two pieces and not three.
Mark, thanks.I'm glad that Barney is ok now. It's difficult to keep a puppy quite.yes he was. If i stopped to talk to a neighbour and they had the front door open he would go in, if the person had the car door open he would go in. If someone had a child in a push chair he would put his head in and look for toys, I had to be very careful about that sometimes it would be a baby, so I would keep him away.I hope that I will see him again.
Mark, meant to say Barney's lovely. We only have ours done if there is something wrong with them. Bracken had to be done when he was 8 years old, they got enlarged due to hormones. The older 4 did as well. When bracken was done he got an infection so had antibiotics. They never had a check up after.
We were going through all the claims with Petplan we had for bracken over the years for things. He had a lump on his neck removed, a lump on both sides of his body, he had something wrong with his face, it looked like a stroke, he had a scan but found nothing, it went better by itself. He had a heamatoma in his ear flap.A small lump removed on the edge of his eyelid. Wet ecsma on the side of his neck.castration.I think we got our money's worth.
Just catching up as been away from the forum for a bit. So sorry to rdad your news Logan. Had a little cry as your posts clearly illustrated how much he meant to you. Hoping you are finding comfort in wonderful memories.
Barney looks sooo cute and full of personality. Hope he's feeling better.

He's coming up to 6 months old and not yet fully grown but developing some good muscles and a very inquisitive nose for trouble. He's been in and out and under and over and through all the kitchen units as we've dismantled them and doing that French gymnastics up walls and over obstacles in the stuff in the dining room.
Minstrel is curious too but tends to leave gymnastics to outside but even she can get it wrong in trees.

Thanks Tootles, I have lots of good memories.
Forgot, he had a tooth extraction because it had broken some how, but didn't know how and they cleaned his teeth in the price.
Haven't bothered with pet insurance here as vet's prices are only just catching up with what we had to pay in Harrow before we left in 1991.
Cosmos has been practising his skills in trees and decided to follow Minstrel up the albizia this time. Not as easy as the walnut tree..... Ooops!
Gosh, Cosmos has grown, he's a proper cat now.
I don't have pet insurance either in France. Insurance is very expensive here and vets are reasonable.
