the first taste of summer was brilliant not a morsel left
My beetroot crops are really pushing on now and whilst on holiday they should be just about perfect for when I get back. The north east has had a lot of rain recently so the ground is perfect for quick growing
Oh Chris, your veg. plot is so neat - yes we have eaten our first batch of beetroot, and they were yummy as my daughter described them. But how do you have such a tidy veg. patch? We have huge leafy courgettes and squash which would take over the whole area if I didn't rein them in and plenty of weeds growing too.
my garden is my heart beat, free gym and where both my wife and myself relax big time and enjoy our work output.
Its amazing how much is growing so quickly with the weather we have had up the north east coz hot and wet just multiples all especially weeds however.
Every time I go to the lottie I spend at least 15 minutes looking and taking out weeds as they compete against our crops.
Picture shows my large raised bed with courgettes, patti pan, pumpkin and the annual nasturums which are Prolific and tasty try the young leaves are so pepery
Yes Chris, little and often is the key to keeping the weeds at bay, and I already have the flower beds, driveways and garden design to contend with - the veg patch is supposed to be my husband's domain but as I have done most of the planting in there this year it seems to have fallen on me to do the weeding there too!
Have a great holiday chris but as a gardener I would suggest that you are going away at the wrong time of year.
however from the day I took on the garden which was a wilderness I made so many friends which were so helpful with their advice and inspirational comments.
i have made so many nice friends who are going to support as I do them to look after the gardens so as past years I go on holiday expect others to pick and enyoy the harvest so when I come back its back to graft And the plants are still giving
Having an allotment is great but having the niceist friends around who will look after your plot is brill and They get to have your harvest that's the deal xx
Chris, your beetroot look good, and I also followed your suggestion with module sowing of beetroot seeds and had a 100% success and the best beetroot crop we have ever grown - so thanks for the tip.
Just an update on the beets which are doing really well and continue to supply excellent return
Five types grown from module start this year and will post picture of all five later this week
Well chuffed about entering my first garden show and got a second for my Paublo beets so come on all out there if i can do it.........so can you with a little luck
