Hosta, never mind pottering, rest that bl**dy knee.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Thanks for the funny story Lirio. It made me smile.

Steve, thanks for grandson's birthday wishes. Unfortunately, even though I always remember his birthday, I don't know how to contact him. His mother is estranged from our son, and keeps the kids away from all of us. image  Never mind, you do what you can in this life, and there are some things we don't have any control over.

"You used to be able to get cyanide but that's probably banned now."

What a shame.  Instant and deadly universal poison is just what we need to be able to buy.image

I opened the controlled drug cupboard in a lincolnshire pharmacy, to find a row of bottles of Strychnine. For sale to the registered mole catcher. he had to sign the poisons book and have a certificate.Thats all right then.imageimage

The cyanide that was available was called cymag it was a powder that when it got wet it produced cyanide gas. awful stuff to use gave you terrible headaches and sometimes worse. you had to carry a special first aid kit with you whenever you used it.image

Have to admit Hosta i much preferred using Ferrets for rabbit control. i grew up going ferreting most weekends in the winter so it never felt like work.

There I was, quietly weeding on my knees when there was a huge explosion! Like a firework banger. Mole bomb has gone off. I'll leave it for OH to deal with. He's gone to do the weekly shop as I had to wait for the delivery of 10 mole traps which were to arrive between 8am and 1pm. They arrived at 12.45pm, French time.

I wonder if we can get that part of lawn resown and green by 8th May?image

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
