Lyn, Chicky and Dove and any others I've missed, my very best wishes to you all. I wish I could help. Very frustrating for you all. Sending mental support, for all the good it is. image

We've just got home from our Lebanese dinner. It was very good as usual and there 15 of us to help the 80 year old celebrate (again).

I can't help feeling that Lyn has been let down by her GP practice.  She's not been informed about the help her father is entitled to, and it seems that the proper referral to Social Services for a Community Care Assessment hasn't been made.  That has lead to a delay in the care funding being allocated and the appropriate carers found - there are no carers sitting waiting for work.

Also as soon as Ma became poorly a couple of weeks ago and it was recognised that she was declining, the GP ensured that  End of Life Care was put into place - a hospital-type bed with an air-flow mattress to avoid pressure sores was provided, the appropriate notes were put on her file and the nurse visited to do all necessary so that as soon as it's needed the End of Life Syringe Driver can be put in place, even over the weekend, with no need for delay.  Ma will be kept comfortable whatever happens.

I don't understand why this wasn't set up for Lyn's father some time ago - as far as I can see it can only be down to slackness on the surgery's part image

Putting a line in means putting a cannula into a vein to give liquids as in an intravenous drip or medicine like with a morphine pump. But it will need a nurse or a doctor to do it, don't know why they couldn't pick it up from the pharmacy on the way, but the chemist should deliver it as priority.

Yes BL - the meds are no good until the line has been put in - hopefully someone will be out this afternoon .............. Lyn, has anyone said they're coming?  If not ring and let them know that you have the meds and need a cannula fitted as a matter of urgency.

  • Hello All,

So sorry to hear about all the troubles on here, Lyn, Dove's ma & Mr Chicky. Lyn you do seem have been very badly overlooked. image

I've been busy as anything since getting back, OH survived, but that's the best that can be said, he hadn't discovered the washing machine or vacuum cleaner and from what Charlie has said the local restaurants have done OK too.

Anyway, book club this morning, Narrow Road to the Deep North, excellent. Lovely lunch and now just waiting to meet my French students for an 'afternoon of English Conversation'. I did manage an hour in the garden yesterday but it is still a bit too wet to get really stuck in but as Lizzie says the weeds are poking their heads up. Some lovely tulips and bits out, a beautiful purple Azalea too. Hoping to really get some work done over the weekend.

All my plants seem to have survived the journey too. image

Lyn, the time has definitely  come to be more assertive with your GP practice.  Some pester power is called for to galvanise them into action. You have carried the load for too long. _hugs)

I think Lyn lives in such a remote place it is hard to find agencies / NHS support that will / can attend. From what I gather about Lyn and the love & care she provided for her mother last year she wants to do most things, however one person can only do so much, love doesn't feed the brain or a worn out body. Lyn  I am thinking about you and I hope your dad is now calm x
