Congrats on the full-sized plot Gina! How exciting!

I've been holding off on planting seeds and buying things due to the clod, rain and low light levels but today I caved! I've moved to a new allotment site - this one is flat and just a 10 minute walk from where I now live!

It seems like I'm behind on things like sweetpeas so I'd better get a move on.

What varieties of potatoes have people gone with? Today I got some Pentland Javelin and Golden Wonder.

  • Thanks Emma, my plot is a 10 minute walk too!

I do sow some sweet peas in October and over winter them, just pinched them out recently, but will sow some more (you can never have enough!) I sowed some broad beans in pots last week but that's it for the moment.

I always go for Arran Pilot and Charlottes.

Planning to get a load of horse muck tomorrow and pick up some pallet collars if they are still thereimage

Hi! I'm very fortunate to have been given the use of a local friend's vegetable plot & greenhouse, this is my first time ever growing veg and I'm doing it organic, just got my delivery if organic seed potatoes Colleen, Lady Balfour & Desiree, so very excited!

I've also got some organic veg seeds to sow & wondered if anyone can recommend an organic seed growing compost??.....hard to find one online, my local garden centre says the organic New Horizon multipurpose compost would do for seeds but I just wanted to see what experienced organic growers suggest please?

Lynn63 , compost , personally I like Levingtons peat free compost and for seeds I sieve the compost first , to take out any lumps etc making it finer for seeds

Are you going to chit the potatoes ??

  • Hi, spent a good few hours at the plot yesterday, got 15 pallet collars for the new area and 8 bags of pony poo! weeded my beds and had a general tidy up. My neighbours were really chuffed that I have the rest of the plot now and are looking forward to seeing it bought to life (it only has weeds and onions at the moment!!)image
