meant to add would the mini 'patio' trees i keep seeing advertised be any good on allotment, couould i put them in open ground?or best to keep in pots? could i espalier trees this small or are they meant to be just 1 stem?

rosemummy, check what's the maximum allowed size of trees on your allotment, then look up the rootstocks used for the types of trees you want and choose the one that will give you the required size. Also check how to stake each tree depending on the rootstock: an apple on M27 will require permanent staking, for example.

GWRS great pics your plot is looking amazing - what is the plant in the second tyre planter? silver one

The bark chipping at the allotment is going down, not sure quite who is using it know next door is using some - I have one bag but not really wanting any at min

Rosemummy have you contacted the council about getting a key - we had to pay £5 to get the key and collect from council office area  - patio trees are normally dwarf and think it should be fine in the ground - if one stem prob cordon trees which are grown for fruits close to stem

Lots to pot on so off I go

I put in more sweet peas and some beans. The French beans I put in last week have developed brown spots on leaves. It was quite bad, I removed the worst affected, but I couldn't remove all the affected leaves because there wouldn't be many left. A neighbour told me that this is something going through the allotment and several people's runner beans have been affected. Hmph. With no fungicides available for edible crops there's not much we can do about it.
