I think they're not keen on male catheters as if in situ long-term the ability 'to go' without is lost.  That, coupled with the risk of infection, means it's often seen as a last resort.  However, in this case ... as for my late Pa, when you're not looking at 'long term' it's often the best solution.

Hope something gets sorted to help you soon Lyn ((hugs))

Lyn, does he have to get out of bed? When I was nursing men used "bottles" in bed. Could you find a carafe or something?

Lyn, hugs and love to you and your Dad , hope you get some help. Like Clari, I too wish I was nearby to offer you help and support at this very difficult and emotionally draing time. I know my Dad has a special ' male bottle' that proves very helpful. xx

thank you for your thoughts.I do have the bottle, he can't pee sitting down,  misses and goes everywhere, so needs to stand to use it, too weak to stand so wants to sit on the commode. Because of already problems, needs to go very frequently,

it won't be long term, Dove, he's way past that,

Dearest Lyn, I really do feel for you.

Follow up the wonderful advice here and see how you get on. There's a mobility place in town here if there isn't one closer to you. Might even have some advice if not able to provide something more concrete.

    Keep in touch.

  • Morning Lyn,

I hope you find some help one way or another soon, lovely to see all the support on here for you too, makes such a difference when you know you don't have to struggle on alone even if the help is only virtual. All very positive vibes. image

I have to laugh sometimes really though, when the Lesser Spotted District Nurse came on Friday morning (she only came to see if he really needed an air bed or was I having them on!). she said that she could have got me the commode for nothing,  she said she would bring  three other items for me, good job we weren't waiting on that commode, because I haven't heard from her today, despite leaving message on her answer phone. Their  heart is in the right place, just nothing to back it up.image
