A couple of years ago, Mcvitie's Butter Puffs vanished from the shelves. Having endured months of deprivation, I eventually found out that there had been a fire at the factory.....most unsettling!

8oz flour . 1 tsp baking powder. 2 tsp ground ginger. half tsp ground spice. 3oz butter. 2 oz sugar. 2 tbsps golden syrup or treacle.
Rub fat into sieved dry ingredients, add sugar and mix with warmed syrup to form a dough.
Knead lightly, form into balls and put on greased tin flattening them slightly and allowing the room to spread.
bake about 10 minutes in 375f oven.
Should make 8-12 biscuits or if rolled, 20 biscuits.
