    Tayberries Liri,

they take a while to ripen then it's a race between the birds but I got there first this year

Hello , we have a Jostaberry bush at allotment ,  very viigorous  , needs constant pruning , fruit makes nice jam

It is a cross between blackberry & gooseberry image

Josta is a cross between BlackCURRANT and a gooseberry. Does make a big shrub though.

Does your tayberry have a good flavour, LilyP?  And does it have thorns?  I've heard that thornless varieties don't taste as good as the thorny ones (& this seems to be the case for blackberries too).  Certainly a lot of the really big-fruited ones I've tasted have been a bit disappointing, compared with the strength of flavour of a standard raspberry.  But my daughter would prefer something not too thorny because she has young children.

I had a Josta in my Northumberland garden.  Great fruit - but it took over the fruit cage...  image

Thanks, LilyP.  Always good to have a first-hand experience to pass on.

Hello all , I keeping getting Blackcurrant & blackberries mixed up , one day I will get it right image

I have also got 2 small blueberry bushes at allotment but never had any fruit , perhaps one day !

Plus a Brown Turkey fig tree which is growing nicely gets loads of figs but not enough sun to ripen them
