Marion, I took OH for a drive in the country after lunch.........the hedgerows (with the sun shining on them) seemed to ablaze with hips and haws. It was beautiful.
Yes Joyce it is a beautifully colourful autumn and a week or two early because of the dry weather. We have a little drizzle again this morning and cloudy but set to improve in the afternoon and it seems a little warmer.
Warmer today and a bit brighter so should get a good day's gardening in. I found my latest order from SGC on the kitchen doorstep this morning when I got up and just had a phonecall to say my new compost is being delivered tomorrow so all I need now is Crocus to deliver my new border fork and I will be all set for a busy November.
My newest plants from SGC are gorgeous as usual -one each of Alyssum saxatile Gold Bullet, Centranthus ruber coccineus, Agapanthus umbellatus White Umbrella and Lychnis haageana Molten Lava. Th last is in flower and there were squeals of delight when I saw it - such a pretty cheerful plant for the front of the border and the lychnis tribe do so well in Bristol! After all one is called the Bristol flower. They must love our alkaline clay. Here is its picture.
Another dry warm day.. My new compost arrived just after 8 so all set for planting tulips in pots and refreshing the potager. The green wheeliebin gets emptied tomorrow so more of the prunings backlog can be got rid of. Gently, gently , is getting there. Of course the good weather is a great ally but I notice the beech tree next door is turning golden and as it and the oaks are usually the last looks like winter is on the way.
My new border fork has arrived from Crocus at the last minute for the 4 week deadline. It is beautiful and the weather is set fair for using it. I have cleared a path through into the middle part of the garden so will start the weeding there. But tere ws a £10 offer off my next order so that is temptation!
Oh such a glorious day's gardening but hunger forced me in for a bacon butty so I got my camera. The Charles Ross apples are very sweet and juicy now so will take a bowl out and pick some.

A lovely Lychnis Marion.
The weather here is now much colder and there's a brisk wind today. . . . more leaves falling.
Garden bin night for me too so I'll need to get the fleece on before venturing out.
