I bet those sweet peas smell lovely Flumpy.  We have rain now GWRS but very light - just enough to make it uncomfortable out there.  No wind yet.

Yes they do Flumpy.  We have had some heavy showers and the wind has strengthened now.  There should be some spare rainwater in the waterbutts by tomorrow.

Looks like another fine morning for gardening but rain forecast for Bristol early evening.  I should make inroads on the mountains of prunings now I have containers empty and waiting to be filled up again.  It will be a damp job no doubt after the rain last night but nothing will need the watering can so cannot grumble.  It is a humid day again which means the scents in the garden will be very strong and the butterflies and bees will be out in force keeping me company.

Fed up with chopping up prunings I took some pictures.  The pears are hanging down now.  I brought in four Cox's Orange pippins to eat.  First time I have grown white hollyhocks next to my red lobelia.  Theimageimageimageimageimageimageimagey look spectacular together.image

    Hello Marion et al :)

apologies for absence - it's been a busy busy time, working full time, working two allotments and everything that comes with it - I've been in the kitchen loads, either making wine or jam or cake or blanching veg or this and that! I've just jarred up a batch of apple and chilli jelly . I foraged a few apples from the allotment pathway and the chilli flakes were ones I made from last years greenhouse chillies :)

apples is the one fruit I've not got growing either in my garden or on any of my allotments so I have to get them from people who do have trees. I have apple trees but I think they're still too young and aren't producing anything useful yet. Someone gave me a book about preserving and there are lots of lovely recipes in there for all sorts do I'm looking forward to working my way through it :)

I'm sorry I missed your birthday Marion - happy belated birthday!

Glad to see that your garden is looking as lovely as ever :)

I guessed you were as busy as I am Fruitcake!  Next Saturday is the centenary of my late husband's birth so the grandchildren have arranged a celebration here  They are bringing the food and as many of the family as can manage  it.  Family history will be having an airing!
