I mix this sterilised organic manure with multipurpose compost for gross feeders like dahlias. I have a lady who comes in from the country with horse manure and mushroom compost every spring and autumn and I put her stuff on the raised bds in the potager and let the worms drag it down into the soil as I am no-dig. It makes for bumper crops of veg.
46 anemones planted and a wonderful walk round my spring flowers . I seem to have even more pairs of wrens this spring. They were darting in pairs over my head as I snapped - mating no doubt. The blackbirds are too and singing really loudliy so there must be lots of competition up in my orchard.
How lovely, Marion! I've just returned from Madeira where they go in for the "riot of colour" style of gardening, on the whole, and find the prospect of an English spring very exciting. My garden's a long way behind yours but the crocuses have opened since I went away - and the buds are swelling on the Rosa rugosa hedge
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Very dark wet and windy this morning but forecast for four dry days to follow. I may plant up some tigridia bulbs with my raincoat on. I must keep the momentum going noe I have the compost.
I had to come in from the grden as the wind was blowing me over but got 15 tigridias planted and labelled. As soon as it qiietens down a bit I have 25 freesias and 10 Bessera elegans to plant.
Two pots of freesias and one of Bessera potted up and labelled. and just in time as i noticed the freesia bulbs were showing signs of life at the tips! As soon as the wind dies down a bit I will go out in the garden and try to find five large pots for my five dahlia clumps that can be relieved of their occupants big enough now to go out in a border. I know I have a black elder and a curry plant big enough and am sure i can find three more shrubs to plant out.
The colours in my conservatory are stunning now the polyanthus are showing their colours and the Sweet William too. The three Iris "Amphora" bulbs I had from Lady Skelmersdale yielded seven plants and four flowers so far! She said she had just lifted them from her garden and that seemsto do the trick - plant your bulbs as freshly dug up as you can!
