I love the changing seasons. My favourite is the start of spring with the promise of all to come. But I also like the autumnal feeling. If I was going to be picky I'd cancel January, plus make July or August weather reliably sunny.
I hate the dark long nights , I hate the cold, I hate wet clothes, I hate that everyone looks as miserable as me, I hate not having a tan, I hate not being able to have the doors open and potter every day in the garden.
Noodle, I'm with you on Spring. It means winter is over.
LYN. Like you I remember coming home from school to tea and toast with real thick butter, done over an open fire with a toasting fork.
Wet shoes and mittens which had to be dried out by the fire, our shoes packed with newspaper to dry them out for next day. Aaahh the good old days. Not !!!
I think I'm with Lyn on this. If you're too cold you can always put on more clothes but there's a limit to how much you can take off if you're too hot. OH likes it hot though so we went to Tenerife last autumn for her 50th - too hot for me! We might settle on northern Italy as a compromise!
A bit of winter is good - cosy nights in, lovely frosts on the garden and winter walks on crisp, sunny days, suitably rugged up and shod. I just think it can go on too long and gets depressing when it's relentlessly cold and grey and damp for months.
Heat is good as long as it's dry and not humid. Then you just need to time your sorties to before and after lunch and a snoozle.

But you can potter in the garden, it's lovely in the cold weather.
"lovely" and "cold" should never be in the same sentence, unless you're talking about ice-cream.
The only good thing about this winter is : 2 weeks in Cape Verde and 4 weeks in The Gambia.
Many thanks.
P.s. This will be the first winter I have been home for for ten years. I can get all my Christmas things out, happy days

Dartmoor sounds good though!

That sounds good too.
Looks like I might be sailing for a week - maybe over Christmas!
