Well I've never sniffed Strawberry Candy Elizabeth, next year
Its funny you should mention Double Firecracker it's not one I have but a member on another site said its never doubled for them either, I looked on Tinkers daylily database as it gives information on every registered daylily and for the doubles how many percentage of flowers are double, Double Firecracker it doesn't say though!, I have a couple I've waited a few years to double but they have had extra petaloids so they're trying
Your second picture I've had flowers like that too and wondered if its gall midge damage, I don't know for sure though what causes it.
The last picture is a polymerous flower more than a double, I love it when they throw up these flowers , there are ones being bred now that have extra petals all the time, I only have one called 'Moose Man'
Totally agree about the darker ones here's my Longstocking in 2 different years, and with one of those polymerous flowers like yours
Lorna yes very handy the wasps nest has been abandoned now so its had a good clear too
Well of Souls is a great name isn't it !,Beat the Barons is one of those clumps I really need to tackle in the spring its scarily huge!
Kathy they are lovely, great colour. Lucky the wasps have gone so you could clear it, before it get's to cold. I bet you are really busy in spring with all your dividing, you have to many plants they must keep you on your toes. You must have a really love for them, that's how I am about Hosta's and Dahlia's, but I have no where near the amount you have of daylilies, I probably would if I had a big garden but I don't,
But I do have the allotment now so might need to get a few more, Just have to let hubby know more are needed well in my eyes they are.xx
I'm really getting into hostas too Lorna I have a few but now we've been clearing a new area in our little wood and I have a nice clearing for a few more, the other day I moved a huge aruncus in there it was so big I needed a saw to split it!, the link Elizabeth gave looks really good some quite unusual ones on there I keep putting them in my basket but need to knock the total down a lot before I check out lol.
I grew some nice dahlias this year too just from cheap Wilkinsons tubers but they've been great, I usually grow them from seed but they were only a £1 each.
Kathy sounds like you have been very busy clearing your wooded area, I just looked up aruncus, it is a lovely plant, it will look lovely once you have finished it. I know what you mean about the link, I keep looking at the daylilies and the hosta's and think yep I'll get them and then look at think well where would I put them and then think well Christmas is only round the corner, the plants will have to wait, but I can't help myself but keep looking, But I will be getting some, the postage to Ireland is pretty good aswell. I got some reduced Dahlias this year, so they went in late but they have been really good, I have mine in pots because the slugs are a nightmare, but since I've been using garlic water on the hostas and Dahlias it hasn't been to bad but I might try then in the ground next year.
Kathy is it easy to grow Dahlias from seed?, do they need any special treatment or anything.
Lovely flowers again, I like the look of Bonanza and love both the last photo's very beautiful.xx
The new areas so exciting like having a whole new garden to plant lots of things have self seeded in the rest of the wood corydalis, hellebores and pulmonaria so moved a lot of them around yesterday, the aruncus was originally from my Dads garden and I have lots of clumps of it one of my favourite perennials, I like the really huge ones
I must try the garlic water next year have the recipe on my noticeboard but never seem to remember till its too late , the slugs weren't that bad here this year think it was to dry for them.
Dahlias are very easy from seed, they germinate in 5-7 days and usually nearly every seed will grow, can't be sure what you'll get but fun waiting to see, they flower first year too, Thompson &Morgan had a good seed offer on a couple of weeks ago over the weekend 10 packets for £10 so I bought some mixed cactus dahlia seeds in with my order plus lots of different foxgloves, yes you've guessed for in the wood lol.
A couple more daylilies
