Hello , how is it going ?

I bought a fire dustbin from Aldi £14.99 cheapest I could find ,to replace exciting  one , nearly had it , I have found it really useful burning stuff on allotment

Also put stuff in home garden because bin as well

    All the best image

  • All good GWRS ta.

I also have one of those bins at home. On the allotments everyone has old oil drums and a chap has offered me one. I need to see him and get it sorted, then drill holes in.

I got some of the manure from the horse field and popped a pea seed in to test for aminopyralid.

All looks good from this pic.

I am numbnuts though. Last a chap offered me a bit if space on his allotment. I said thanks but I'd rather have one in my own name. Him and his brother have 2 allotments next to each other.

Anyway got the one I have going on about and now he has offered me one of the two he has with his brother as he has one shoulder replaced and the other isn't so good. This one is 50 yards from my front door !!

Luckily I put my GFs name down on the waiting list a few months ago and she is 2nd in the list. The chap who is 1st will be taking over another allotment soon hopefully. We can then get this one in her name. I will still be keeping the original one so that I can grow plenty of gem squash & butternut for my mum. It will also give me plenty of space for spuds and anything else I want.

In time I will also put up a polytunnel on that one.

    Pic of the 'new' allotment.

Phew going to be mighty busier. The chap has had this allotment for 40 years so I can learn plenty from him as well.

We will share the big greenhouse and move the smaller one to his side.

    Allotment picture looking good

2 allotments yes you are going to be busy

Been to plot this afternoon when mist finally lifted , pleased with what I did but as ever lots todo

Had a good burn up as well image

  • Wow the second plot looks well maintained hope the GF gets that plot, like the pea trial looks healthy

Make sure you get a crop rotation plan for this year off him and which way round he was moving the plants

Hard graft gone into that plot so veg should come out nicely, you could have fruit trees on you plot

how many plots on the site?

  • Hi GWRS

I have not had time to do much other than pop new green waste on to the compost heap.

Been down south to take son no. 2 down to Brighton Uni. Away in France tomorrow until Sunday for 50th. Following week in London for GFs mum's birdthay. Home for two weekends then in France to a friend's house for a week - phew, not normally like this.

Should have the new allotment in Gfs name in a few weeks.
The chap who has it with his brother told me yesterday that he only sees himself going on for another few years. He would then like a small section on his one. As they are joined together, I am thinking of giving up the one I did all the work on. Just keeping the new one and try take his other one over in a few years !!

    Confused?

Question - would you put well rotted horse manure down and cover it or not cover it?   would it help to cover to stop weed seeds germinating

Hello , I put the horse manure on the beds and do not cover it  and dig it in in spring

But the beds are cleared of weeds first

You always get the odd weed popping up but I don't have any problems , it works well for me image
