Hello , I trust you had a nice holiday , a bit warmer than hear
Horse manure , difficult to tell from a picture but should be OK after the winter ready for spring , personally I would turn a coule of times as well , you could spread some on top of any beds you have ready and leave there ready to dig in , in spring , it should stop any weeds
Going to plot this morning , have been cruising down the Seine to Rouen for a couple of days , so it will be good to see what needs doing
I had a great tip from Gardengirl from another allotment thread about Wyvedale garden centres , they are selling all there seeds off at 50p a packet , well worth a visit , went to one on Sunday also bought some Kale plants to replace those that got eaten
Wow Seine to Rouen sounds fab. I saw some of the barging ones with Prunella Scales.
Also doing our back garden as well, so I will be moving a lot of the manure that has already composted down very well there. Then if any of that left, that can straight down on the beds.
Hopefully I will lose some of the fat belly by moving and turning it !!
Hello , holiday was good , we sailed from Southampton , stayed with o/h sister in Swindon there and back would definitely recommend it
Sounds like you are going to be busy doing garden as well
Bothof us went up yesterday and I dug up potatoes , golden wonder , they look good and o/h harvested loads of stuff
I went up to day and did loads of different jobs , have started renewing paths with shredded material that local landscapers deliver free , it works very well for me
I'd love to use horse manure in the garden. Unfortunately, the dog loves it even more than the plants do.
The mention of horsetails. The only way to finish tem off quickly is with a VERY strong weedkiller. I use Clinic Ace for spraying at 150ml per litre and within a couple of weeks they look like dried hay.
They often make a weakened attempt at resurfacing but repeated dosages kills them off fantastically. In lawns, I inject the stems and they soon keel over.
An organic solution is to hoe them down as soon as they make an appearance but with rhizomes that can go 30ft deep and spead for ridiculous distances around a garden, the hoeing method may take many years as they have so much energy stored in their roots. As long as they constantly deprived of the capacity to photosynthesise, they'll give up the ghost but it can be a very long war of attrition.
Horsetail , unfortunately I have it on a section of the allotment , the allotment ass. bought some weed killer not sure of name which is effective but keep applying it myself
robin.white nice lot going on the plot, picture of weed not quite clear but think it is fat-hen annual weed try to remove before it seeds to much - horse manure I get is well rotted been sitting in compost area for 6- 9 months when horse manure rotted it does not smell
B&Q do the plastic but it 1000gsm so nice and thick. I also got 2 from Ebay as there was a guy selling 2 near me.
I need to get behind the newer horse manure as lots of older stuff behind. I will be bagging up probably 50 bags for my home garden as well as taking out old crappy trees and making asuper duper flower bed.

Back to rainy England and some compost bins made.
How long before this would be usable?
And slightly mucky afterwards..
That was 16 barrow loads. Will take a few more to fill them up. Will be mixing the house waste in as well.
