Watered and done the sideshoots on the tomatoes and watered all the pots and tubs, picked and ate a few early autumn raspberries and admired a 'flock' of ladybirds on the runner beans - no aphids on there at the moment - do the ladybirds know something I don't?
Interestingly the ladybirds were all natives, whereas the ones we had in the garden earlier in the year were Harlequins.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
WE cut the hedge the other day and I was trying to bag up / shred the cuttings. It took twice as long as usual because I had to keep shaking out the ladybirds. They are not as plentiful this year and they took a long while to arrive (suspect the long cold spring / early summer was to blame) but they are here now and enjoying a bumper feast of aphids on the roses etc.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

I've mowed the lawns. Done some deadheading and been staking up Hollyhocks, phlox and sidalcea.
