I have just been watching a repeat of Monty's French Gardens series, done a few years ago and our climate is more like theirs was then.  Enjoyed it even more than when I first saw it.  We get a surfeit of talks on plants in the wild with hundreds of slides at the AGS meetings which are interesting for one interested in geology like me but only occasionally help with growing alpines in your own garden. Better to have a good snifty round the rock gardens at Kew and Wisley for that.  Perhaps that is where GW is going wrong.  But we all garden for different reasons so it is very hard to satisfy such disparate people in a 25 minute program.  If you find it boring skip watching it.  Browse the gardening books in your local library, surf the net for gardening programs, but only if it is too dark or bad weather or you are too ill to be actually gardening.  There is more joy in five minutes of that than five hours of watching.

Nice to see a few voices of reason  in these ultimately boring watch and whinge about GW threads.

I'm interested as to where people get their inspiration, ideas and advice from, other than here of course! image I Don't really view this thread as a complaint, more a critique and a place to voice what we as individual gardeners want in a show. There are enough shows out there for everyone to be happy, but I do find peoples opinions interesting and appreciate listening to likes, dislikes and suggestions. image

I've been watching Monty's French gardens too and the a to z of gardening on YouTube, I also check out Kleipieper's thread, gardening programs on the web, very useful thread indeed, so thank you Kleipieper! image

I like Carol too. Really enjoyed the series about her garden throughout the seasons which was on a while ago.

I did like Geoff Hamilton where he used to plant his veg with the flowers

I think I'm going to try and find the Geoff Hamilton episodes on the Internet. I don't watch very much telly apart from on the train (I have a 4 hour daily commute so rely on my iPhone quite often). Always hearing such good things about his gardening.

Yes Logan and Tootles, watched those shows also on YouTube and loved them! Did anyone ever watch that show last year on Sky about people's gardens and they marked them against each other and had to teach them something. That was great to see what other people were doing.

Didn't see that one Astrudle. The more gardening progs the better! More chance of something for everyone's tastes.

I enjoyed the south Africa native plant sections.

    It was something different.

    With beautiful locations

And to see the kniphoffia species in such varied terrain was an eye opener.

Of course, gw must not forget its real purpose.

    Kokedama was an insightful section.

If only to suggest that there are other ways of doing something so quintessentially british as the hanging basket.
