Sorry Steve, I know you can more than stick up for yourself: but I wanted to let you know that some of us don't think we know it all, that's why we're here.

    Devon.
  • Which was appreciated. Twenty years in practice and I have to count to ten pretty much every day...

  • As I said, in my experience vets are generally very patient people.  What is more, a vet's focus is on what is best for the animal and is backed up by scientific evidence, not what fits in with the owner's idiosyncratic theories image

Steve -  I am not a vet but I have had to count to 10 on your behalf ...

I am not so naive as to believe that clinicians (in any walk of life) are ALWAYS right -BUT I do think that years of training and work experience deserve at least a modicum of respect unless circumstance prove otherwise.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to try alternative treatments for animals if they do no other harm. It is, however, right that you highlight the potential side effects of some of these treatments so somebody doesn't suddenly start feeding their animal something without researching the facts.

It is also clearly ridiculous for somebody to try to tell you what surgical procedures you have or have not carried out!!

Keep signing in - I always enjoy your posts.

Steve, in the words of the famous Delboy,

'Theres none so blind as them wot wont listen'

My friend found that out when she had 'always' fed her previous dogs on raw chicken bones. The dog eventually died, whether it was true or not, I dont know, but the dog contracted cancer afterwards and her vet said it could have been caused by the trauma of the op.

Hi Steve have looked up your thread, very good.image

On another note, thank you once again .I am so pleased that I checked up on the cheese.it's surprising how one can get miss led specially with tried and tested old wives talesimage ........

Where would we be without your experience.

Whilst I've been out today , I called at our vets he said that if I give our dogs this  dog food to knock off everything else except  his mettacam. So will do and  I shall also get the food through him .simple reason being he is a very good vet, wouldn't go to anyone else . He has built a lovely rappour with all my dogs   and if I can put a few pennies into his pocket then I will.image.
