Willow, its interesting to read what other people do, they did an item on the different doggy diets on the alan titchmarsh show a while back, the raw food diet was on there. If it works for you, then thats what counts , i struggle to make food for myself, let alone the dog!
Lots of opinions and lots of passion on here, everyone is welcome
I for one am happy to read your posts on this thread which I started, everyone has a very interesting input including yours. For one I am very interested in the dog food your son gives his dog, could you tell me more please ? I think it is similar to what I've seen our vet advertising . Though I'm not certain
But he recommended that the next German shepherd that we get , that we feed a raw/ fresh diet from a young age which did include raw chicken AND chicken wings for the bendy tissues. He said some dogs need a raw diet and soft bones .he did suggest raw knuckle bones too..admitted I did question the raw. Chicken because of salmonella.. but as bekkie says if it works for you ........
As I see things we each have an opinion and that is why I asked. And it's all appreciated. Thank you.
Steve hmmm
If that was the heading I might have been thinking I had slipped onto another thread,, and not dared to go there !!!!
the dogfood my son feeds his dog is from a local supplier (and they make it themselves). The company is called All for Pets. They operate very local and a 10 kilo bag of their dog food costs about £12.They deliver to the door. They also breed spaniels, own Macaws because some people found these birds too hard to handle and/or too noisy and do a world of good for wildlife.
Regarding the dog food they do two mixes and both are wholesome but can get a bit boring for doggy. Hence I introduced raw chicken wings and chicken drum stick and thighs and as I feed my dog twice a day ( most dog owners would reccommend once per day ...but would you yourself like to go hungry for 24 hours and having to do chores/games and be always nice to people?? ) I feed her breakfast which is a chicken wing, chicken thigh or chicken drumstick and then she gets either the dog food or if I cook something with minced beef, I keep some for her and top that up with raw carrot or apple and some boiled rice. She loves it She's now 10 years old and acts like a spring chicken lol
As for the dog food, granma...it's very low on grains (which the mainstream dog food suppliers use a lot of to buff it up), it's instead high in meat, it doesn't smell (dogs have a much sensitive nose than our noses, so the last thing I'd like to smell is dog food ), it contains oodles of minerals and vitamins, but without showing to us humans that it does, but the perception of colours for dogs is limited.
De Facto: "Dog food that applies and smells nice to the human is designed for pleasure of the human, but not for dogs "
Thanks willow ,I shall check with the vet ,again ,
On the same subject he has suggested that we mix a little cod liver oil with mince and rice for our saluki , not a lot though of the oil , he has a sensitive stomach.
Just remembered he said the beef knuckle end bones were the softest and good for keeping teeth cleen
I also add a drop of Lugol's Iodine into their food, to help their thyroids and what you said about knuckle is all so true. Once my little dog ate her chicken wing (which is mainly soft tissue/knuckels) you can tell the difference

Greenhouse is indeed sorted Granma, I think I posted pics a few days ago under the heading 'I indulged myself"
I'm beginning to think I either shouldn't have replied here or I shouldn't have joined this forum full-stop *sigh.
I never said "feed your dog this that or the other", I only said what I feed my very happy roomies.

It's called a barf diet.....
http://www.barfpetfoods.co.uk
I knew that, steve
but it's not a diet, it's natural food given to natural animals
