Have to say, I struggle a bit with this. When I was a doctor, I thought I deserved a lot more money, often working 100 hour weeks and being available 24/7.

However I am also an enormous sports fan and one of my great releases from work was to watch undoubtedly over paid sports stars.

Is that sitting on the fence?

  • Okay, firstly, no-one has defended £2.3 million for a footballers wage. That's that out of the way.

Hostafan, were you drunk when you posted your tirade last night or were you just desperate for a fight or to try and belittle someone? Hear this, you are a tosser! If you were face to face with me, I assure you, you wouldn't rant at me like that. You are a keyboard hero who sits at his/her computer, afraid of no-one. However, your not afraid only because you know your safe in your little cyber world and the person you're having a go at doesn't know who you are. You're probably the type of person that when faced with a real life confrontation would be shitting in his pants.

As for you Fishy, why do ill informed people always use ridiculous and extreme scenarios to try to emphasise a point. Nuclear war??????? What does that have to do with sports peoples earnings. Again, were you drunk? Maybe just a little eh? Blurred your sense of proportion a bit did it? Good god man, get a grip on yourself.

Most people believe that some sports people are paid a ridiculous amount. Most people have the sense to realise that most sports people earn a decent living and that's it. Everything is driven by the market in which they operate. The wages are, ultimately, determined by the people who watch and enjoy the sport. They are, ultimately, paid by those who watch and enjoy the sport. It doesn't cost you anything. It doesn't cost the tax payer anything, in fact, it brings in tax revenue. It doesn't cost anyone who doesn't have any interest in sport, anything. Taking money off sports people wouldn't increase the wages of anyone else.

Professional sports people don't choose this as a career for the money. They choose it because they love the sport and they are good enough and dedicated enough to make it. Don't have a rant at someone who did what most people would love to have done. Is there a hint of jealousy in there boys?

This is in danger of becoming very unpleasant, could we all agree to play nicely?

  • It is already very unpleasant. I have tried playing nicely. Unfortunately, some people don't ever want to play nicely. There are overpaid people in every profession but it seems that's okay.

As a former professional sportsman I see this issue differently to most people. I understand what's required of a life in sport. Most people only see the tip of the ice berg and assume it's all a bed of roses. It's not. The vast majority of professional sports people work extremely hard to be the best they can be in their field.

Because of my background, I see this abuse by Hostafan as a personal attack.

given the huge amounts of money the BBC pays to broadcast sport, it most certainly does come out of everyone's pocket. Those who own a TV  by law must pay for a license.

Potterin? a personal attack? ha ha ha.When did I mention your name?

You need to, as you say " get a grip on yourself"

You really need to get some relaxation.

at least we agree that some sports people are vastly overpaid. Which is what I meant by my original post ( hardly a tirade) unless you're ridiculously oversensitive.

BTW, there's always the handy "ignore" feature.
