Leigh might be small but he can't half kick a rugby ball and run. I have ulterior motives for watching the rugby with my OH, Leigh being one of them image Really enjoyed the match last night, though we both have rotten colds and OH missed the second half image Have to watch it again today with him on catch up.

  • England played a better second half. Wales seem to have lost all their chunky players and have a more streamlined team these days. Looking forward to Ireland/Italy.

  • So, Wales got their revenge in a game that meant something. I don't usually watch the Union boys but, after all the hype and the build up about it been the most important game in the history of England versus Wales, I thought I'd better give it a go.

Come game time, there I am, armed with a big bag of coconut mushrooms and a bottle of ginger beer, anticipating the thriller that had been predicted. Fifteen minutes in and my excitement is waning. By half time I've decided that the most exciting part was when I blindly fished in the bag and produced two mushrooms stuck together!

Rugby Union, despite it's huge popularity, is soooooooooo boring! Kick the ball, catch the ball, kick the ball, line-out. Faff around, walking to the line-out. Faff around deciding what play to put on at the line-out. Drop the ball, have a scrum. Faff around setting the scrum, 'win' a penalty. Kick the penalty. Congratulate each other on a magnificent attacking strategy. Repeat above, repeatedly.

Meanwhile, the athletes in the three quarters, stand around thinking 'I thought Webb-Ellis picked up the ball and RAN WITH IT!'

Sorry if I offend anyone, just an alternative view of the kick and clap game.

Saw this photo in the Times. Maybe I should watch some rugby?

  • As an Englishman I have to say that I was shocked and disappointed to see England lose from such a dominant position really it was a disgrace, not that there's any disgrace in losing to Wales but to lose to such a depleted team at home when winning is shockingly poor. As for beating Australia you can forget that, the rugby world cup in England and then they play like that. Well done Wales you deserved to win and England should hold their heads in shame.

  • Agreed Barry. Wales deserved the win. If only for managing to convert more penalty attempts. A total of 53 points in the match but, only ten as a result of scoring a try, one each. Unbelievable. If this was because both teams were defensively awsome then fair enough but, it wasn't. It was because they were both offensively woeful. There was a total of thirty two missed tackles in the game, THIRTY TWO!! It would be an insult to schoolboys to say it was schoolboy standard and, still, only two tries in the entire game. Most (thirty six) of the points came from penalties. How can two international teams, in any sport, who fancy their chances of winning the world cup be so indisciplined? Beggars belief.

Anyhoo, good luck against the Ausies, they'll need it.
