Hi Runnybeak and others. Yes, this winter seems to me that it is longer than I've observed in the past. We've had the fire (heater) going since 1st April and only let it go out long enough to clean out ash. We'Ve been cutting a trailer load every week on the back of our property and getting through it, too. Hubby just came into the bedroom with a cup of coffee for me (8 am) and cheerfully announced that his weather station reported minus 3 this morning, I think I'll stay here a bit longer!
Most of the garden is sulking outside and in the unheated greenhouse, the various seedlings are just marking time and not producing more than a couple of true leaves. I'm convinced they'll go crazy when the nights get warmer. I'm really impatient to get going with all my spring germinating.
Marion, the Cerinthe seeds I bought showed a deep blue/purple flower, so it's probably C. major. I'll check the packet later and let you know.
Runnyb, I'm glad you liked the little vest. I'd be lost without having some knitting to do. I quite frankly find the TV boring if I just sit without something to do as well.
hope you all have good gardening weather over there.
Gosh Pat - a snake scarer!!!People with lawns in the Uk sometimes use mole scarers and some people would like to use cat scarers but snake scarers in the garden puts that into perspective. Your Honeywort(Cerinthe major) looks healthy. Give each plant plenty of room. They can grow huge in one season. Your jonquils look well away.
Beautiful dry sunny warm day for Bristol today. Some of my pots will need watering as well as the tomatoes.
Snakes!!, I don't like snakes, lovely pictures Marion, blue sky and nice and warm in NW so summer wear is back out again : ), going to dead head my osteospermums and give the soil a turn over then I'm gonna sit in the garden and finally soak some sun up, got my sin lotion ready : )
Good idea flumpy. I have watered all my tomatoes and made a start on the pots but it is warmer up rapidly so I think my rattan armchair and book will be calling soon.
What a glorious day of gardening I have had. Firstly, while I was busy in the butterfly garden my neighbours, husband and wife today, were painting the new wall cream and my flowers are looking so good with the cream background. Then in the middle of my hard work I realised the soil I was cleaning of bindweed and blackberry roots was a beautiful black loam whereas , before I supplied it with loads of horse manure, it had been a very hard clay. No patch of black loam has ever been welcomed as much as this was. The forecast is for a week of such brilliant weather which means my birthday on Tuesday will be celebrated in the garden. Two parcels and a card arrived this morning, three days early!
Hi Marion, sounds like you have enjoyed your day, it's been glorious here to , me and my hubby was sat in the garden and a friend come to join us.........
We where literally two feet away and it was singing away

I bet that last message went twice. I thought nothing had happened, so touched the yellow button again. Sorry if I did!
Marion, I meant to say that I was very impressed with your bargain purchases. They looked pretty good in your pots.
here is a photo of the seeds of Cerinthe that I'm growing.
And my catalogue
Been busy in the sun today and some photos. There are signs that the days are warming up.
First Stock flowers making an appearance.
Primula hiding near the snake scarer.

Fritillaria uva vulpis just emerging and sharing space with last season parsley.
