I always cheer myself up by singing and sometimes dancing when I cannot get out in the garden so I spread my tulips out and paired and separated some for single variety in pot on the spare room bed singing "Tiptoe through the Tulips" and counting the big pots required - eight so osteospermums will have to go into the border,  Then a knock on the door so stopped singing to welcome my new conservatory fan heater - my little seven year old one conked out at the end of last winter.  This new one is gaily blasting out heat at full throttle for 15 minutes as per instructions to get ris of new smell. then I will set it to keep the conservatory above 5degrees.  Of course I am feeling much better now I am beautifully warm.  Must remember that the next time I have withdrawal symptoms.  Here are the tulip bulbs and the smart new heater (£55 no P&P, twenty weeks to pay with no interest).

My plants from the Secret Gardening Club have just arrived and though late are all in good condition.  Their bulbs are all of good size so should flower next year.  I think I will plant Crocus "Romance" which is an early cream one in a shallow terra cotta bowl on the kitchen patio table where it will be sheltered from the worst of the weather.  Tulipa "Princess Irene" will be planted in a bed of my new forget me nots in the Perfume garden.  The white pinks are superb plants which can be planted straight out as well as the bare root pink double asters and the Helenium "Pipsqueak"  All the perennials come in threes so need quite a large piece of border and they will all have to be planted with me firmly on the path as the soil is now so wet but that is OK as I will want to see them nearby next year anyway.  Oh do stop raining.

This week's order from the Secret Gardening Club has arrived as well .  Three lovely large Helleborus niger which I think i will grow on in the conservatory as they will be flowering soon and four fine lots of bulbs.  I certainly am doing my bit for biodiversity with all my new plants.

  • Good to hear that you are snug and warm and that all your plants arrived in good shape.

  • Morning Pat , we should be fine down here in the south but I think the north will take a big hit. I don't mind most weather extremes ( hate cold temps!) but I do find really strong winds scary!

    Keep safe everyone.

Yes strong winds in Bristol forecast for next couple of hours , flowers.  We seem to have had heavy rain in the night as I have a duckpond outside the kitchen.  The soakaway is not soaking away too so the water table is very high.  But deadheading in the conservatory this morning it was very mild indeed so new heater is not needed yet.

  • Morning Marion, at least it will blow the remaining leaves down, which will mean a big sweep up is on the 'to do' list.
