Just eaten my first two Worcester Pearmains straight off the tree for dessert for my supper. They were very sweet and juicy so i shall have two every day now till my plums and pears are ready.
Hi Marion lovely pictures and so colourful, Pat please don't worry about me, my hubby is very supportive, it's just a horrible thing to go through, hope your all well : )
H Flumpy. Our weather had been ranging from downright freezing to not too bad days. Can't get into a routine. I go out to the GH every morning to open it and sometimes I have to knock the ice off the handle and the thermometer inside shows minus 1 or 2, so the plants are all hunkered down in there. Outside, my silverbeet (chard), turnips, broccolini and kale are all doing well. We have started harvesting the broccolini leaves and they are really good to eat steamed or chopped into various stewy things.
Yesterday, because I've become so used to hanging around inside, couldn't get going when it became sunny and mildly warm. Uncovered the veggies, but basically that's all.
Got visitors coming later in the week, so I'd better get busy tidying up the house.
Good trip to allottment today , dig up some potatoes , courgettes , French bean , cauliflower and carrots , o/h did a vegetable soup for dinner with gross berries and red currants with custard for afters
Very windy and everything's blowing around. There are a couple of large hares running around in circles outside, very humorous to watch. The wind is breaking off the ends of branches of the various eucalypts out there and they are flying around. The sun is shining, so hopefully the solar panels are helping to make up for all the heating we've been using. Haven't been out to check on veg bed yet, but I'm sure the covers on the cloches have been scattered everywhere. Oh well, it'll give me a job to do.
10.50. I've been out with a load of washing, hung it on the line while fighting the line from the wind ( hubby has recorded 50 km winds on his weather station). Then went into the garden yard and as I predicted, the covers on the cloches were all over the place. I had to go into the GH to fold them up.
I thought I heard goats talking to each other while I was out there, so I'm thinking I might need to go down the hill to the orchard and close the gate - then again, it's a toss up on me running out of breath or letting next door's goats have a free rein. I think I've already decided to stay up here.
Lomandra - appeared at base of Eucalptus near house.
Viola odorata 'Czarina'. I've had this violet for many years (brought it up here when we moved from Melbourne). It doesn't look happy, but is early in the season and will get going soon I hope. it's a lovely rich colour perhaps not really noticeable in this photo.
