I now have conservatory envy but I do agree; If you can't get into the garden, a conservatory is the next best thing. I don't know what I'd do without mine, small as it is, as it is my greenhouse and potting shed too.
Feels so much warmer this morning - high of 9 degrees promised but we have had some rain through the night so the garden is quite wet. If it stays dry i should be able to get some more tulips planted in pots.
I managed to plant 30 Early Glory tulips before lunch and weeded two of the potager raised beds ready to put well rotted horse manure on this afternoon. I planted two osteospermums and half a dozen polyanthus which had come out of their pots to make way for the tulips into the middle of the beds. After all it is a potager so flowers for pollinators are very welcome. Easier to do in them than in my wet clay borders.
Mild again today and rain not expected so should get more work done outside. My nine new plants and more bulbs may arrive from the Secret Gardening Club today as they were shipped on Monday. As the bulbs are Iris reticulata I will look out some terra cotta half pans for them. The nine perennials will have to go in bigger pots no doubt as they are in 9cm pots and usually ready to be potted on. I have some epimediums which have grown apace and can be planted out from the path so that is three bigger pots solved.
Good morning GWRS. Yes it is good day for gardening at least in Bristol as the sun has come out. I found three Phlomis plants which needed put into the border too so have their three pots spare as well. Secret garden Club plants just romp away!
My new plants arrived just as it was getting dark but I managed to get 3x Stachys "Lilac Falls" potted up and the others put in water for a drink. The stachys is new to me and the leaves are very fragrant so I came in smelling lovely. Another one for my perfume garden I think. It rained a bit through the night but mild, very calm and dry now so outside calls.
Perennials all potted or planted in the borders, iris bulbs in their half pot. I have run out of horticultural grit so experimenting with woodchip mulch on top to keep the squirrels off. It seems to fool them - no holes in the tulip pots yet and they are their favourites. My saffron crocuses are doing well. Have hopes of saffron for Xmas.
