Just thought that I would let you know that last year I had a go at 'winter sowing' (google it as I found it fun and very easy). I think the method is used more in the USA and Canada but I grew loads of plants with great success. I had everyone saving me their used plastic milk containers and sowed the seeds in them. After one initial watering I placed them in a sheltered spot in the garden and forgot about them for a couple of months. In spring they were all planted out without the need for hardening off....so easy, already planning for this winters sowings and making milk container requests ( they really make brilliant mini greenhouse and very portable too!)
I too like grevilleas since I saw them in the Botanic Garden,Pat. Floweritr that flower is Haemanthus albiflos, commonly known as the Shaving Brush plant. Not hardy as it is from South Africa but easy to grow if you remember to take it under cover in the winter. There is a red flowered one as well.

I'm like you Pat with no heat in the greenhouse.........I just bubblewrap and cross my fingers, and so far past winters have turned out fine.
