My patio set was a special offer with £70 off, nearly half price in the Guardian Newspaper shop summer sale. I always look there first when shopping as I have always been delighted with my purchases and they do next day delivery for a small fee. That little native shrub looks pretty. I like scented flowers.
21 degrees and sunshine all day forecast with no rain so my visitors are in luck. Off to bake 3 dozen fruit scones, tidy up and find some non gardening clothes to wear.
I see the common name for leucopogon is beard heath which makes sense as the Greek leucopogon means white beard so the fringes are the beard bit. And being ericacious explains the heath bit. It would not grow well in Bristol being we are so alkaline.
Yes Marion. Our pH is about 6 so a bit acid, also there are variations in the chemical make up of our older Australian soils. We are on shale here, so the soil is not high in nutrients like they have in the area where granite is the basis. I'm glad you looked it up. I didn't want to overload you with too many details such as the Greek basis of the name.
You must, by now, be fully loaded up with delicious eats that you have made for your family. No wonder they are coming for a visit! ( not meaning that they aren't coming to see YOU, ) that didn't come out as I meant it. Have a fun weekend.
Hello again Flumpy. I'm glad like the kangaroos. They are not tame, but tolerate us moving around the garden or watching them through a window. We've got a very, very big male hanging around the mothers club at the moment. I think if stood straight up, he'd be more that 2 metres tall.
They always sit up and watch our toy poodle when she comes out for a toilet break, but at least they don't hop away like they used to do a couple of years ago, so they must realise that she is not a threat.
Yes it's very big isn't it, your hubby didn't get to close I hope, we had a bees nest in our garden last year , there was a hole in my lawn which made it hard to cut the lawn without a bee flying at me ha, thankfully they haven't nested this year but Ive bought plenty plants that bees like .
do you ever get a Kangaroo in your garden? And hey I didn't know they where that big flipping heck
The photos are in our garden. We can't fence it off any more than it is. many of the photos were taken from out veranda or the bedroom window. The one with the joey looking out is right besides our bedroom. The large males can be very dangerous if challenged. They stand on their tails and kick with their strong back legs, so we don't try to get near them. If you ever see a film ( like a David Attenborough film) he will show two males doing that when they fight each other for dominance.
Hubby was very cautious near the bees. I think they are all asleep now, though. Are you doing any gardening at the moment, or is it too hot?
I don't think I'll ever get grocery deliveries here - even the pizza shop won't deliver - apparently, they arrange to meet their customer near a bridge (which is about half way). Thankfully, we aren't into pizza. I've got a pot of Osso Bucco on for us tonight, so that might help with warding off the cold.
However, I agree that it is so enjoyable to be able communicate with you all over there. I can relate to your uncomfortable hot weather as easily as to the cold. On the newscast last night they showed lots of people in the UK as well as Germany sunbaking out in parks and around swimming pools - ARE THEY MAD! We are taught from an early age to protect ourselves from the sun because of skin cancer and here are these photos of people just lazing about out there. Unbelievable! Especially when they are not used to it.
OK. Rant over.
My garden is sorely in need of my tender care, but I just can't force myself to go out there and get freezing fingers every day. My raspberries should have been dealt with by now, the bed we are in the process of moving from the vicinity of next door's rapacious pine tree, but the ground is too moist from frost and dew to get the tractor up onto that hill, so the re-located bed is only half done. I'm planning on using it for potatoes this year instead of broad beans - I've still got lots in the freezer. I haven't even been near the roses to dead head nor to think about pruning. I did manage to remove some of the old leaves from the Day Lillies so that I can see my various bulbs emerging.
I hope you have a goof weekend with family Marion. We're in for 3 weeks of short sleep while the Tour is on.
