Christmas day is also good for loading skips and pumping out septic tanks Salinoimage

The winter works spread through till spring so hard to say what's to do this year. Some more demolishment of laurels, a cherry to come down, (something undiagnosed wrong with it), Hazels to coppice if we get time otherwise next year. A few willows to cut down, they were intended to be coppice 20 years ago but never were, one is dead.

Well get as much done asap, I like to get the shredded stuff on the garden before it's frozen.

Floodlight required, days are too short.

Maybe not though, energy levels short as wellimage

  • The 'to be shredded' pile is getting rather large here, nut!  I'm also going to coppice a Hazel as it's grown so large that it's shading some fruit trees so thinking about removing it completely.  It has produced some babies (probably with the aid of squirrels) so I'll move a couple of those to a more suitable area if I decide to dig it up.  I'll wait until I've enjoyed the catkins for a few weeks first though. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Bob, we've stopped making shredding mountains and stop early enough in the day to finish with a shred.

Otherwise it becomes overwhelming and you can't move without falling over something.

Just found this thread. It was started when we were about to leave England to come home to France, after visiting friends and family.

Still have more tulips to plant, but it's taking time because where they are going needs sorting. Still no frost and annuals are still flowering in tulip places. But I'm gradually getting round to chopping down, weeding, digging up and then planting tulips, violas and forget-me-nots.

Have 3 climbing roses still to plant, Crown Princess Margareta, Teasing Georgia and Compassion.

OH has cleared loads of leaves.

The veggie garden is a mess and will need clearing during the winter. Still have spinach beet, leeks, curly kale and purple sprouting.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
