Noggins; an interesting word. I ended up some years ago running a small building site. My method for doing this is to hire people I have come across before on sites who seem to know what they are doing. One of the chaps I hired to replace a wall rotted with damp was a tiny chap from Lancashire, who demolished this (non-supporting) wall and then said 'Shall I put in me noggins?' I said 'Hang on a minute' and dashed out to a phone box (before the era of mobiles) and rang an engineer friend and said 'What the hell are noggins?'
Apparently they are the cross members in a stud wall.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It's Mr Postgate's voice that does it for me Dove. Fitted the whole piece perfectly. Along with the clarinet of course.
