This may be a daft question but I grew my sweet peas (which are still inside) 3 to a pot and having read the advice, have pinched them out. They are developing side shoots but the seedlings have now reached the top of their supports, and are sending out their trendrils. I've already potted them on once - should I do so again so I can put a bigger support for them to grow against?
Mine have survived the weather David. I have to say that I took David's recommendation and went for Eagle Sweet Peas even though they were more expensive. I had 100% germination and also got to choose the exact colours I wanted. I have loads left for next year.
I do get confused sometimes when hearing 'need to harden them off'....but why soften them in the first place?
Yvie - pleased to hear of your success. I haven't made any kind of price comparison, but I do know that buying quality seed increases your chances growing quality plants and I do know that Eagle SPs are second to none.
Edit: I would just say again, protect those young plants from these cold winds.....I have never lost them to frost, but I have lost them to cold winds.
Thanks for your warning about the damage winds can do, David. I took your advice and shifted my sweetpea seedlings to a protected area for a couple of days. Glad I did, the winds were horrific, but my sweetpeas are OK.

I save some seed each year and plant that , however , over time they have all gone white , so purchased a pack of mixed colours this year

Hi, Denno.....if you live in the UK and anywhere south Aberdeen, I would suggest they should be their flowering spot by now.
As I keep saying, please offer some protection from these very cold winds.
I'm in Staffordshire - hail, wind & rain today! I just need to harden them off, but I'll wait and see what the weather's going to do.

I have my sweet peas in pots indoors, with supports, have been pinching some of them for bushy peas and left some tall ones.
